Re: FIAT and CHRYSLER

Hi all,

I must say that my brand new Chrysler 300c is an excellent car. The first new car I have bought in years. It has been slated here in Europe as having poor build quality and comparing badly to the S-Class merc.

As someone who understands the difference between US and European cars, I can say that there is no comparison between them. Chrysler are not trying to build S-Class mercs. I drive an S-Class and my 300c regularly and I really prefer the clean uncluttered lines and interior of the 300c.

As I have stated previously I would not have bought the 300c if FIAT had any involvement in producing it.

There is a good reason why FIAT have a poor reputation and very poor second-hand value. Not everyone can afford FIAT developed supercars - into which all the proper designing and engineering go.

And everyone is entitled to my opinion!

Pat.

Yes, Sir thats my Baby!

The guy I bought the Packard from told me about it and Mr. Jim Pearsall also brought it to my attention.

I do recognize some features on the Packard sill existing on my car today (For 'features, read faults!).

I got am email from the Buster Keaton fan club last year asking me for details of my Packard. They believe there is some connection between Keaton and the Packard. The previous owner told me there was some Hollywood connection apart from The Empire of the Sun but he could not remember what it was.

If you want a signed autographed photo of myself and the Packard, please send me a cheque for a sizeable amount and a stamped self-address envelope.

Pat.

ps. If I remember correctly there are a number of Packards in the aformentioned film.

Hi all,

I recently bought a Chrysler/Daimler 300crd.

It has a Mercedes diesel motor with bags of torque and power but I am told it is not sold in the States because it is too dirty!

Anyway, I can tell you if there had of been ANY input from FIAT into this car I would not have bought it!

FIAT = Fix It Again Time

Premature Ejection Worry!
Home away from home

Hi all,

Anyone ever had a passenger opening up the rear 'suicide' doors while the car is moving? The results would be horrendous, and the passenger may also get injured!

It is something that constantly worries me while I drive sometimes inebriated,
love-sick couples around.

Has anyone ever designed a mechanism to lock the rear doors whilst moving?

Pat.

The springs are from a 34' Standard, a limo I believe. They have 11 leafs compared to the 10 on mine.

I put them straight on, they are nicely firm and level. The came equipped with gaiters, a light metal covering crimped over with a 'cloth' wrapped around the leafs underneath.

Should these leafs be lubed? I have several different opinions on this.

Riveting Subject!
Home away from home
Home away from home

IrishPackard
Hi All,

After installing my new leaf springs and pins I went for a victory drive. It was cut short by a severe rattling coming from the front. On close inspection I discovered the 3 rivets connecting the cross bar (tube) to the frame rail in front for the radiator were broken clean through. I have now drilled them out and replaced them with HT bolts.

I wonder if any of the other hammered rivets used in the construction of the frame are similarly broken or loose?

Any experience of this out there?

Pat.

Forgive my stupidity but do I have to remove the hub before getting to the pins? If so is it a 'nuts and bolts'?
