Might hang it after the autopsy.

Here is the finally conquered piston. Pencil indicated hole drilled to rings.

Riki,

Thanks for the timing cover photos. Nice work.

I got the MIG running yesterday so while I am social distancing, I will give it a try.

After a year plus soaking the one stuck piston from both the top and bottom and utilizing every penetrant known to man, heat and cold, I decided it was time for drastic measures.

I drilled 4 , 1/4" holes 12, 3, 6 and 9 O'clock very close to the outer rim of the piston. I was able to drill down into the ring grooves. I filled the holes with Kroil, heated the piston until it boiled the Kroil. This allowed the Kroil to get to the rings. I repeated this cycle several times and with a big drift and a hammer, I was finally able to drive it out.

Amazingly there is no damage to the bore and no rust.

Now on to the cam.

I looked at the parts book and the wingless one is 15th series only. Part number 235097, for the base

The '38 one is 235961 and has wings and it is the same part number as the '39.

All 3 series (15,16 and 17) use the same emblem 235096.

I looked at my car and found no holes in the outer trunk lid but a large and smaller hole in the trunk lid inner. My car does not appear to have been repainted and there is no evidence of filling in of any holes in the outer skin.

I noticed the winged Packard 12 holder and emblem. Can someone tell me about it. My car was very complete but it didn't have that emblem and I don't see anywhere that it might have gone. It does have the round Packard Twelve red and chrome round badge on the trunk rack.

Was '38 Different?

Interesting body as it is devoid of the rear quarter windows, the rear window looks smaller than my 1608 and it looks to have had some form of partial top cloth/vinyl covering.

That theft number is just over 2000 numbers later than my 1608.

I assume it has a floor shift, not column?
