Is anyone or any organization documenting existing EAC Packards?
If so, I will send in whatever info they want for our early Third Series sedan.

Thanks for responding.
I have the manual, but as usual, manuals are too simplistic.
I still need to know how to keep the clutch assembly from turning .

How to remove Third Series Six clutch plates?

I am trying to remove the clutch plates from the transmission but am stumped. There is a big nut on the shaft holding the plates in place.
How do you break the nut free without damaging the plates...or any other part of the transmission?

Certainly there is an easy solution that I have not tried.

All suggestions are appreciated.

I had a chance to buy this (or an identical car) in Fredericksburg, VA for $1500, but my Packard guru, Bill Ferris, told me that was not a good driver...so I took his advice and passed on it.
Oh...forgot to mention...that was in 1966....

Gail and I were out driving our 1927 526 convertible coupe today. We have discovered that if you count to 5 (and let the rpm drop...)when you slip into neutral, the transmission will slip into second or third without any grinding.
Try it...and enjoy driving your 533!

Re: 840 Manifold nuts steel or brass?

I am not a metallurgist, but I was told years ago that if you use steel, the manifold is apt to break before the nut strips, whereas, the softer brass would fail.

Several years ago a friend sent me a picture of his tool kit
He had a '37 Twelve and a '39 Twelve.

Our '37 1500 has an incomplete kit...just the wrenches and screw driver. The pouch and wrenches look identical.
One side of the wrench is labeled 'Made in USA", the other side is labeked 'DROP FORGED'.

Thanks for the compliment. Yes, I also think that the lines without the fender spares is very classic.
Actually, I bought this car in 1980 after I bought the Le Baron A/W Town Car, so that when I picked up a part from the Le Baron 'pile' I could look on the sedan to see where it went.

Our 1937 1500 (listed in the Registry) was originally owned by a wealthy wool broker, but was put into storage until 1950 when the daughter chose to go to her wedding in the 'FOREIGN' car rather than the Rolls or Daimler.
Once when visiting the family in Edinburg, I was presented with a VHS tape of the wedding movie.

The story is in the Augumn 1994 issue of The Cormorant.
