Re: Suggestions for floor mats?

When I purchased my Packerd it had this gas pedal accessory. A couple years later I removed it and found the Packard crest on the gas pedal. What a nice touch Packard did. This accessory slides on the gas pedal from top to bottom and allows you to have a daily driver without the daily driver wear and tear on your carpeting. I don't know if they are still available. I never saw one untill I bought my Packard. I have one of the Packard International floor mats on the passenger side. If the gas pedal accessory isn't available anymore, and there is enough interest, maybe we could get some made.

Thanks Don for the dates and everyone else who responded. Is there a schedule of events for the 3 days I can look at? Brian

I'm trying to schedule a campout in Quartzsite, AZ in January but don't want it to conflict with the Packards International car show and swap meet held in Anaheim. I have scoured all of PI's websights, including the regions and none of them mention the annual gathering. Is it on this year? My first and only time going was shortly after buying my Packard. I didn't do the whole event, only the "pick a part" swap meet on Sunday. Now, 5 years later, and a whole lot more knowlagable (thanks to Packard Info.com and a lot of work on my '55 400) I want to go back, with my car, and chat with other Packard enthusiast. Thanks, Brian.

I tried that. Even soaked it with WD 40 and applied 90 psi to the other side to try to blow it out of there. The check ball has been driven into the seat. Unfortunately it is a steel check ball, not the normal aluminum one so drilling it out was not possible. This carb will become a parts carb when the other one is in place.

I pulled the carb and took it apart. The floats were fine and in proper alignment and height. The problem with my carb was the jets. First of all, the carb on my engine is not the correct carb. It had the wrong jets in it, much larger than stock and the venturis on the primary side are also incorrect, . Also the ball that goes in the accelerator pump chamber was jammed into its seat and I was unable to free it. I have no idea how the accelerator pump is getting fuel to it but it is. I installed the correct size jets and have stopped a lot of the rich issues. It will do untill I get my "new to me" carb. I will do a rebuild myself and see how that goes befor commiting to sending it to Daytona, where so many have had good results.

Thanks everyone for the advice and help. I just talked to Mike Dulinski and a correct carb is on it's way. Brian

It all sounds good to me, I will stick with original equipment. BH, you mentioned Mike Dulinski might have one. I searched this websight using his name with no results. Do you have a contact phone number for him? Thanks.

Are you happy with your 4GC Carb?

I'm thinking about replacing my 4GC carb with an Edelbrock. I would rather keep it original with the 4GC but I really like driving my car and I'm having lots of issues with my 4GC. One of the problems is the 4GC that was on the car when I got it was incorrect. It is supposed to be a 7007230 according to this websight. My engine had a 7007327 when I got it and it ran really rich and leaked so I rebuilt it. The jets were the correct size and I set the float levels. It still ran rich, you could see the fuel dumping out the venturies when you sped up the rpms, not much atomization of fuel and air. After a year I purchased another 4GC. I was told it came off a 1955 400. It didn't. The number on the tag was 7008610. I just pulled the carb off the engine and the number on the bottom of the bowl was 7009111. The tag didn't match the carb. This carb also runs super rich and I can't lean it out. I'm going to spend some money on carburation, I'm just not sure what road I'm going down, stay original or modernize with an Edelbrock. Is the 4GC a good carb and are you 4GC owners happy with it's performance? All opinions are welcome. Thanks, Brian

I had the same situation. Car rode level for 5 years then all of a sudden the passenger side sat lower than the drivers side. Turns out the clip on the drivers side that holds the end of the sway bar in place had popped off and the end of the sway bar was resting on top of the lower control arm. Once I put the end of the sway bar back in place the car settled level and I got my smooth ride back. Now I'm looking for a replacement retainer clip.

I purchased a universal exhaust hanger kit made for all applications, used the rubber strap with holes and stored the rest of the kit. You can purchase these kits at any auto parts store or muffler shop. The kit pictured below has already been canabalized for the rubber strap.
