Series 1 & 2 Single Six disc wheels?
#21

It is well known that the early Single Six "Sport" were fitted with Disc wheels 1921 had nondetachable discs with demountable split rims by 1923 these were changed to five lug wheels with lock rims. I believe that the early wheels were 24 inch but can someone tell me positively what size the lock rim wheels were.
Were these the same wheels as fitted to the first of the eights towards the end of 1923?

Re: Script" Packard" on early 1920s radiators?

Thank you John
That seems to be the answer I am getting from several locations.
While I am in Melbourne Australia my car is Left hand drive and has never been on the road in Australia. It was apparently imported during the 1950s but never left the docks! Following a dispute with the Australian Customs Service it seems to have spent the next 50 years locked up in a Bond Store. No one, it appears, is willing to confirm or disprove this or offer an alternative explanation.

Script" Packard" on early 1920s radiators?

Hello
None of the period photographs of 1922-3 cars in the "photo archive" show the Packard Script on the front of the car's radiator yet almost every restored car has one. How can this be correct? All the cars shown in the archive are presumably new or near new when photographed.

Series 1 & 2 Single Six Steering wheel retaining nut.

Hello again
My search today is for a steering wheel retaining nut. With all the early Single Sixes that have been dismantled there must be someone somewhere with a spare. Having discussed making one there seem to be a number of obstacles. The obsolete thread size and pitch is just one. (13/16 X 20 tpi) also the unusual size hex barstock seems to be a problem. It seems the only way I can get one made is to remove the steering box and completely dismantle it in order to have a sample of the male thread to take to my machine shop. Something I would sooner avoid if possible.

Rear spare (Disk) wheel mount.

Hi all
Can someone/anyone assist me with a drawing or photograph of an early 1920s rear spare (disk) wheel mount, Basically I need to know how it fixes to the cross tube and what stops it from rotating under the weight of the wheel.
Surely there is someone with a 1920s car with a rear mounted spare wheel that can use a digital camera. It cannot be all that hard. I am not wasting your time you can check out my progress on <http://forums.aaca.org/f190/my-next-project-1921-packard-coupe-282900-41.html> You can e-mail me <two_oldlags@optusnet.com.au>

Thank you

Thank you West
I have put a watch on that one. What I am really looking for is a service leaflet or exploded diagram showing how it works, how it should be wired into the system and how it comes apart so it can be put back together again. Is the switch built in or does it have a remote switch?

Hello
I am looking for installation and service info for an early 1920s reel type dashboard cigar lighter. Has anyone had experience with one of these interesting accessories.
I am also looking for either photographs or drawings that would assist in the fabrication of a rear mounted spare (disk) wheel. (1923-6)

Thank you

Bernie J.

Don't look now but they are filming a re-make of the Great Gatsby in Sydney virtually as we speak. I have it on very good authority that at least one or two local Packards will be included. Changing from LH to RH drive will not be a problem. We drive on the left side of the road in Australia so the local cars are all RH drive.

My Thanks to all the good people who bent over backwards to assist in placing my car on the register.
Going back a post or two, originally I was under the misapprehension that my coupe was a Holbrook body. This is of course quite incorrect. Holbrook only built their bodies on later 8 cylinder chassis. My car was a standard Packard factory 222 (doctor's) 4 person coupe. In the course of rebuilding the body I have removed the pivot points for the legendary folding front passenger seat.
If you see also my other thread here you will note that I am very interested in obtaining any information regarding my cars early life in America and especially the events leading up to its decapitation.
