I recognize a steering wheel and gear shift lever and knob.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I just made my first donation. Big Kev thanks for maintaining this website, which has been a tremendous source of assistance -- and fun too!

This is for 1947 (will deal with '46, 42, 39 and 38 later).

I actually served for 6 weeks aboard one the Packard-powered minesweepers, for my 3rd class midshipman cruise during the summer of 1972. That was the USS Esteem (MSO-438). The cruise started in Long Beach, up to San Francisco for some a minesweeping exercise with other wooden-hulled craft. On the return, liberty in Monterey, and back to Long Beach. The Packard propulsion performed flawlessly. I don't seem to recall whether it was equipped with an Ultramatic -- (just kidding, it was an Electromatic).

You've done a beautiful restoration of your '49, and I am glad its been recognized by others at the shows you've attended. Thank you for sharing.

Looks to me like a good candidate for Preservation Class. By maintaining it in its current original condition would be cost-effective also.

With all the recent questions about the Electromatic Clutch, I wonder about its status. I'm assuming, given the mechanical condition when the seller acquired the car, that it's not operational.

Also, another important matter is whether the wiring harness has been replaced. Failed wiring is what initially necessitated what turned-out to be a major mechanical restoration (read, lots of dough) of my 47 7 passenger tourer.

I bought my 47 7-passenger tourer with a working electromatic. It was quite an interesting novelty when demonstrated to me.

Since commencing a complete mechanical restoration a few years ago, I've insisted that the electromatic, the overdrive, and everything else work as manufactured. In the process, I've gathered everything I could find about the clutch (virtually all of it from this website), and I've bought a number NOS replacement parts. Believe it or not, there seem to be ample parts available. This makes sense when you consider so many folks turned-off their electromatics.

So, I say, "Yes" to Tinpan and the Electromatic Clutch!
