Well L will try to be brief-hard for me. I met a new employee at work and were talking out our interests outside of work-well I mentioned I was into old cars. Well the young man asks me what I have- I tell him a 1955 Packard and a 1965 Olds convertible. Well he says hmmmm-Packard, my gradparents have one of those. I ask him what year-he says its from the 30s but is not sure of the exact year. Well i ask him (thinking he might be pulling my leg) next time you visit them take some photos and email them to me. Well last week I got the photos-I WAS ASTOUNDED-it was a 1933 or 1934 SUPER 8 7-pass sedan. Now I apologize for the poor quality of pictures I am posting I had to photo the pictures with my own cheapie digit camera to make them postable. So he tells me the story-his great grandfather bought the car new in 1933-drove for less than a decade, then in WWII put it in storage-and there it remained for the better parts of SEVEN DECADES. Fortunately the structure was sturdy with no water leaks. My friend states the car was last started in the late 50's or early 60's and only because they had to get a piece of equipment out of the garage. As you can see in the photos it has many years of dust on it but it is remarkably intact-I liken it to a time capsule. The Grandfather would like to get some money for the car but the grandmother-whose father bought it is inclined to hold on to it-I would love to be able to buy this car but what would a reasonable offer be on it assuming the engine is free and it looks as good in person as it looks in the photos. I know to get it running at the very least would require the gas tank cleaned and sealed, the car rebuilt, the engine tuned ect. BUT WHAT A FIND this would be!

The Stromberg Model C automatic choke confirm it as a 33 or 34. And based on the headlight lenses it' a Super Eight. If possible, I'd love to have the VN, theft-proof, and if possible the motor numbers from it.

It also has the exceeding rare (today, but not in it's day) Kelch hot air heater.

Yeah I saw the blower on the manifold and figured it was a heater.

Hi

WOW! The barnfind of our dreams! The deeper front fender valances suggest it's a '34, possibly an 1105 seven passenger sedan. Hope this wonderful Packard will find it's way into the hands of a responsible conservator and kept original as much as possible as a document of that era.

Steve

It's a 34 Super 8 for sure. Too bad they didn't cover the chrome and underhood parts with Vaseline. A car like that in a garage heated to 42 degrees would still look like new.

At least it's not one of those disasters I've seen so often over the years.

And take note of the dash panel. That's how the original smokey bronze should look. In the old days the car would be scrapped just for the dashboard.

Well, what do you know!

Yes, it does appear to be an 1105 model 754, 7-passenger sedan.

After moving from Philadephia and returning to Detroit in 1989 the first Packard I bought was an 1105/754. The car was sold out of Reading, PA at the Jones & Manske dealership and the first owner lived in Lancaster, PA. I guess a number of those cars were sold in that region.

It would be cool to see some better photos and determine if it is a 5-passenger or a 7-passenger (147" wb).

Fender mounted running lights are factory installed OEM.

Notice that they have the same V shape as the headlamps.

Standard Eights had convex lenses.
Super Eights had V lenses.
Twelves had V lenses and buckets that were somewhat deeper than the Su8s and had a fin/ridge on the top and bottom.

One question I have to ask if I would strike a deal and buy this car-where could I go for parts that arent priced out of the stratosphere-I hate to look up kanter and max merrit and see that word under price "INQUIRE" which usually means to me if I have to ask I cant afford it for such basic items as water pumps, and starters.
