There is a good video of the 250 convertible posted by the owner on Youtube. Very nice Packard.

Good luck with your '49 Deluxe. I also have a '48 Deluxe Sedan, R9 overdrive. These are some of the best made post war Packards, even though some don't like the "bathtub" look but I get loads of compliments on mine. I too had to clean my under carrige and engine compartment. The brakes were the first thing tackled. As they were repaired and adjusted , all the wheel bearings were greased and repacked. Change all the fluids. I only burn non ethanol gas with a lead substitute added. I use a special oil that one of the car clubs sells for these old engines. After doing this, all tapping and other noises stopped . Car runs good as new. At least that what the other more experienced antique car owners have told me. Have fun and everything you need to maintain this car can be found here at Packard Info.com.

Back in 1963 my dad found a 1941 "120" on a Ford used car lot. The little old lady had traded it for a Ford Falcon. Imagine that ! Well one Sunday we started out for a Sunday drive and the gears got stuck as Dad shifted from reverse to first. He tried everything as it blocked the busy street in front of the house. Finally he called our old Buick mechanic and he told him to get on the driver side front fender and bounce the car up and down. It worked ! He remembered this from his years of experience as he was in his sixties then.

I must chime in, since I am a proud owner of a 1948 Packard Deluxe. In my area of the country Chevys, Fords, Mustangs, etc are a dime a dozen, but to see a Packard on display is something special. Comments like "is it running ? you can't hear it running ! and "that's the way a door should sound when closed" are normal. And people are in awe of the Straight Eight. There really is something "special" about a Packard, even the 48 to 50 models.

Fred or Dan, would you be so kind as to list your inventory of Packards. Maybe tell us which is your favorite and why. what is under those covers in the background intrigues me.

This appears to be the Agate Blue Metallic paint color. The same as my 1948 Deluxe which is also a unrestored original with now has only 17 thousand miles on it. This was a short lived color for that model year.

This car looks very nice. I have seen lesser models for that much or more. The maroon has what I consider rare and that is the gray faux wood interior. Most are brown. It also looks fully restored or original. The green and tan has the Electromatic Clutch. A good Club Sedan, as both of these are, are hard to find in my opinion.

Judging criteria for a preserved original car

Just can't stay away

Attended a local car show Saturday. All awards went to cars 1970 and up, except for the proverbial 55 Chevy, all modified beyond belief. A perfect all original Barracuda Convertible received no recognition. There was a perfect, mostly original, but some restoration 1972 Pinto in that avocado green. It is so ugly you can't help but love it.The poor owner told me he had been attached so much for even showing it that he would not allow it to be judged ! So my question is, What is the criterion for judging a preserved original car ?

My electrical man determined the regulator was bad. I am trying to use NOS parts since this car is all original. Packard part no. 362858 Delco 1118278. I got a NOS Packard part no. 363858 Delco 1118202. This regulator does not work even though the parts company says this is the replacement for the original part. We also disassembled and cleaned the generator. Brushes good and it tested OK. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
