When I considered the trunk lid prop, gas spring, and the scissor prop were the choices. Then I was at the Marina a few weeks back and saw these hatch props that are simply a tight wound springs.
This will add a little touch of vintage individualism. I can fasten to the inner trunk lid with a couple of small screws. Maybe 8-32. And the bottom of the spring will fasten to a little metal bracket that will weld to the bottom of the drip trough along the side of the trunk opening. See pics

Spent the morning welding and grinding on the doors. They are now ready for sand blasting and primer. The outside door handle is installed and looking good.

Made good progress on the driver's door... The top of the door where it meets the top of the quarter had to be built at an angle for a good fit and eliminate any rubbing when opening and closing the door. I installed a bear claw latch... much safer than original style.
Next is the handles and linkages. I will probably build the passenger door before I skin them.

I was able to get about 2 hours on my doors last night... I was having Packard withdrawal since it has been over a week since my last therapy session.
I was able to make the jam panels for both sides and weld in the driver's side. I cut out the door top for the same side and have almost got it formed.

I spent all week in Chicago, so no progress on the speedster build... but I did get to order pipe bends for the tail light stands, polished stainless steal for the windshield frame and parts for the wiper system.
When I bought the 1 1/4" pipe bends I had to buy enough for two sets of tail light stands... so if anybody out there needs a right and left stand let me know. Here is my guide for the tail lights:
