Howard, I'm looking forward to your summary.
If a person were to do the fabrication themselves, what do you think the total cost involved would be?

Hmmm... they seem to be working for me on my end. Let me know anyone else can't see them and I'll try uploading them from a different source.
Thanks Kev!

Moved to the passenger side dog leg. Not done yet, but at least it got started.

Managed to get some more rust repair done. This time it's the passenger side.
Basically the same procedure as before. Next I think I'll try to tackle the passenger dogleg. Yeah!

I don't have any experience with the straight8 Packard kits, but Bob's shop is about a mile from mine in Ham Lake, MN. He's actually the person who rescued my car. You won't find a more qualified, or knowledgeable machinist. Personally I wouldn't think twice about putting any of his parts in one of my cars.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Looks great! Money well spent. Can you tell where they cut the tank open for the media blasting?

Prototype is almost complete. Have to cut a hole in top for the sending unit.
The fit is good. There will have to be some spacers on the top of the tank as the new tank isn't as tall as the original. Maybe by this time next week, I'll have it all worked out.

Couldn't get any more done over the weekend. Hopefully this week will allow some time.
I spoke with Spectra Premium. They are a huge manufacturer of fuel tanks. They told me that they attach filler necks, vent tubes and such with plain old 50-50 solder. This may be a much faster and cheaper route than tig welding. I'll give it a try and see what I think. Need to get a couple more items. Then an in-car fitting will be possible.
