Re: 16 cyl actually two 8 cyl engines?

Amen! Even to someone like me whose knowledge about car engines would easily fit in a thimble, I can appreciate the aesthetics of an engine.

My late father, a WW II vet, often said that well-made and/or attractive things always inspired the owner to take care of them. Unlike now days, so many things are cheaply made and LOOK cheaply made; as such, few are motivated to care for them and just as soon replace them when they break.

Thank you for the clarification. As is obvious, I'm still in the learning curve.

Last year's Hot August Nights, there were very few--that I saw-- Pre-War cars.

I did stop to talk to one guy who had a beautifully restored 1938 Chevrolet business coupe. He couldn't answer any questions I asked about his car, prompting me to think, "Here's a rich guy who's flaunting his wealth, spending a couple of days in Reno for something to do."

Yes, the owner of the Cadillac 16-cylinder pointed out many of the aesthetic attributes to you mentioned. All I can say is Wow! To even make the engine as regal and visually appealing as the exterior speaks volumes about the spirit of the age.

That's it! It was a Cadillac v-16 I saw on Youtube. Your description is exactly what the owner said, although I could never have articulated it. And, yes, the engine was quiet as all get out. I bet that engine sucked up the gas.

On youtube I saw either a 16 cylinder Cadillac or Packard, I can't remember, and I neglected to put it under my "Popular" tab. But, the guy said that the 16 cylinder engine was actually two eight-cylinder engines synced-up. That must have been a difficult engine to keep running smoothly.

Wow, what a beautiful '39 Packard coupe.

In one of the pics I noticed that the interior rear windows even had wood molding around them. Now that's attention to detail.

It would be interesting to know what the reserve is for such a car.

Does anyone know if any Packards are going to be at Hot August Nights here in Reno next weekend?

Oops! I just showed my ignorance. Cut me a little slack. I'm still learning the ropes.

No, I'm not particularly interested in that model. I'm shooting for a Packard 120 in the 1936-39 year range.

Do Pack 120's require higher octane gas?

Do Pre-War Packard 120's require higher octane gas? Or do they run OK on 87?

1938 Super 8 Pack relisted

I saw that the survivor 1938 Super 8 Packard on ebay has been relisted with a new starting price of 25K. I guess that is the seller's way of elbowing potential buyers in the right direction of the reserve price.

120 acceleration on entrance ramps

Garrett Meadows
What is the acceleration like on Pre-War 120 Packs? As I was accelerating to merge onto I-80 East yesterday in Sacramento and cars were zipping past me at 70+mph, I wondered about how a a Pack 120 would do under similar conditions.
