Re: Power adaptor

I too searched for a way to add a power port for my cell phone/gps. In the end I decided to keep one of these in the glove box of my 41, because it serves 2 purposes; charging devices, and jump starting. Plus I wasn't sure that the generator was quite up to powering a modern accessory (or 2) such as a phone or GPS.

http://shop.antigravitybatteries.com/micro-start-xp-3/

It has adapters for iPhones and android phones, and most any other device that can be charged via USB, plus a built-in flashlight. I did test start my 120 once, it had plenty of power to do so. Just have to be quick and careful because it does put out 12 volts.

It's very small and lightweight.

Just came across revised listing on Hemmings...listing has been revised, with no pictures of the engine now.

Hemmings Listing

On a side note, I think this was the original color of my 120 sedan. It is a pretty color combo...if only the hood was done correctly.

The owner's manual calls for SAE 30W but says nothing about detergent vs non-detergent.

Is there a specific brand out there that anyone can recommend?

Drew' advice is excellent.

Only thing I can add is that my '41 1901 is happiest when filled with one of the high quality 15-40 mixed fleet oils Drew mentioned.

I'm glad the owner specifically specifically out the dash plaque to me. He was very nice and accommodating at the end of a long day. He is the proprietor of Cumberland Mountain Railroad Shop in Dunmore, PA.

That was very nice and generous of the meet director to send one to the PPG. Hope to get there someday.

The owner of the 12 was also nice an accommodating, but I didn't have a chance to chat with him, he just allowed me to open the door to take pictures (He was in mid-conversation with someone else).

BTW, if you have a chance to tour NAS Oceana it is highly recommended. OUr tour bus parked on the flight line for about 30 minutes during the tour, so we could watch, and photograph, flight operations.

Some Packard pictures from Virginia Beach Beach. The meet was held at the Military Aviation Museum; a fantastic venue for a meet.

Interesting short article on the old motor about Warren Packard in a picture with the Easter Egg/experimental straight 12.

The Easter Egg

Is there any other info out there about this vehicle? The straight 12 is pretty awesome.

Seems our friend from Oz posted a link earlier. Sorry for the repost, I hadn't looked in the pre-war section prior to posting.

Thats just tragic thinking. Right now they are thinking about this in terms of onboard computers, and proprietary information, but with typical legislative scope creep are they going to eventually try and prevent me from doing my own oil changes, or tire rotations?

The radio in my 41 120 has screws. There are some pictures of my radio partial disassembled amongst the album linked in my signature.

I've worked on it a little each evening this week, after work, and most of the lines are made and in place.

I haven't been able to find a reliable spec or recommendation on how tight to torque the flare nuts? It seems that most things I have read say to finger tighten and then another ? turn or so, until fairly snug, without overtightening.

Does that sound appropriate? Is there a technique for doing them even and consistent?

I don't. ..came across it on The Old Motor while searching for Packards. What caught my eye was that I grew up near there, on Long Island. Plus I love vintage racing pictures.
