Well after 11 months got my project back from painter Friday. My brother picked it up and drove it to his garage to put on parts needed for regular road driving such as lights windows and such. I had to put on a few pieces this morning. Now I will have things to do with my free time which is now limited do to my choice to go back to work to help a group of my friends.

This is a quick update on my project. No progress to speak of as waiting for body shop to finish paint which has been going on since last Oct. Which we do not mention in my home. The latest update is it will be done soon. The reason for this update is to give a thumbs up to one of the people I had the pleasure of dealing with, Dale E Mease. Of Mid Atlantic Packards a true gentlemen who delivers what he says he will in a timely manor rare in todays world . I ordered a set of Diamondback radials from him at a price under what Diamondback would deliver them to my door.
Nice to see that some suppliers can do what they promise on time.
I have all the needed parts to finish my project exept the painted body all I can do is wait one summer season almost gone now.

I agree a lot of the old stand by paper printed forms are going away we now have the electronic means at the loss of the printed copies. Hemmings is having less cars for sale they are using articles to take up the slack just compare a older version with the latest ones. Hemmings has expanded into Classic car and Muscle car which are great mags. We are loosing the printed to the electronic that's the price of progress the old are replaced by new. I still like a paper copy to hold in my hands and have for future reference
Try taking your electronic copy out on your porch on a sunny day and reading it .

looked at the two magazine Randy mentioned the company is Universal Products Company Inc Dearborn Michigan Detroit universal joints. One add has picture of yellow box and its for aPlymouth 35 - 42 and other cars. Also in fine print says ball and roller bearings the other add and needle bearings no mention of detroit lubricator. The 1951 magazine sytates the are making universal joints for Sergeant Joe Doakes and not neglecting civilian John Doe. The boxes pictured are yellow. would take picas but camera not cooperating at presnt time.

Had a great time at the show the only thing better was the weather perfect for a car show only bad thing is season is coming to end. We parked next to best other also know as best original Packard. Use link to see the Studebaker web site pics a picture of a unidentified man in black standing near best other. heard there were 35 Packards at the show

The instruments in 57 Clippers like those in the picture of my 57 are the same part number as the 56 Clipper also note that 57 Clippers have no trip meter as the senior cars have The oil and gen are red idiot lights the same as 56 Clippers Senior had gauges

Re: Original 56 prices for everything

One thing to remember is that the prices then were set by the dealer no window sticker and when buying a Packard or any independent car the number of dealers was limited in most areas. Therefore the buyer was at the mercy of the dealer as today except few places to get help on what would be the selling price or a good deal. This was how car dealers got to be classified as not the most honest people to do business with.
The above is my feeling and car dealers were not the people my father uncles and grandfather held up as role models
