It was 4 or5 years ago when I was looking for new floats. I checked again here on the xref for floats. 55-fuel,ex. did not find it. Seems there are threads here as new as a year ago about problems finding new float assems. Does anyone have a part # and price for them from daytona? 2 required +their kit to compare to sending one away for rebuild?

The # listed in the xref google searches as a fuel tank float$10.95

I am no expert but I can give some tips on the 4GC as I had issues with the one on the 55 clipper custom. Rebuilding that carb may seem like a simple undertaking. In earlier days an overnite in the carb acid and new seals etc would get you rolling down the road. Now the acid is an enviro issue and without a proper cleaning results may be less than the desired. A safety issue may also arise with floats. These carbs have dual floats mounted in pairs on a wishbone arm. I could not find new floats so i repaired one of the secondary floats with the solder technique. Well it worked great for a few months then the other sec float developed a leak and due to the design, the uneven cocking hung the secondary needle open and caused fuel overflow out the vent and a fire hazard. The secondary floats were very thin due to stagnant fuel in the bowl not being used unless your really in the throttle. I would be afraid of used or even NOS floats and unless you can get brand new asem (2 floats on the armature) even repairs may cause issues as these need to rise perfectly level so as not to get Hung up. I have the orig on the bench and an adaptor plate and a modern holley or demon is very tunable and she runs fantastic. very clean, never loads up and never leaks down, no cyl wash, no oil dilution. She can sit 4 or 5 weeks- 3 pumps and fires up before the motor makes 2 ful revs.Anyone have a lead for 4GC carb float asems new on the arm?

I agree. The roads here in NY are a hodge podge of patched holes,if patched at all so, yes the ride and safety is orders of magnitude better. As far as reasonably priced, here in this area 200 a tire is commonplace and tires are not the area to be penny pinching.

Ok. thanks HH56. So the 55 coordinator has only air inside but was to perform the same function of cycling the wipers 3 times after the last washer squirt. Do you have a vendor for all the seals, valves etc in the Packard wiper motor including the lid? As i said I dont think I can have a problem with the dash sw or vac lines under the dash as the "doner" motor of unknown yr works strong from the same switch and the vacuum source and storage canister and check valves must be ok too. I saw the kit for the washer pump. seems expensive! I guess the days of rebuild kits of 11 or 16 dollars are gone. I saw another club member went with a 250 electric. Seems to make more sense if the pump kit is 100 and the wiper motor kit is around the same and you are saying there may be an issue with the coordinator if someone turned the adj screw in too far.

here it is. The sealed chamber is filled with silicone fluid which flows from the head end of the plunger to the rod end thereof when 'the solenoid coil is energized to effect movement of the plunger in one direction. The return spring moves the plunger in the opposite direction after deenergization of the solenoid, and at this time, the ball type check valve... ehttp://www.google.com/patents/US2886720ngages

thanks. I am getting the big picture from all the info. I believe the weak wiper issue I had and some others is due to the extra valve and "cup" assy in the lid because as I recall 3 or 4 yrs ago when my friend gave me his old vacuum wiper motor and I swapped it in the wipers worked very strong at all speeds but do not park. at that time I tried to swap the paddle assy with the good seal to the packard motor and it still needed help to move at all. so I have been running his since but I had to plug some hoses and deal with the non factory look. The car is driven so I required the function rather the authenticity. As for the coordinator, the info I got was quoted from a january 1956 US pattent document. I can go thru my browser hist if you would like this info. The adj screw on the coordinator is to adj how many sweeps the wipers make after the washer is turned off.
