Does anyone know of an "easy" way to get at the starter switch to remove it from the dashboard with taking the dashboard out?

Thanks
Gene

Thanks, I'll check with him. Probably will need the rotor as well.

Thanks, a couple of grooves are deep, wondering if I can use some solder to fill them a bit?

Did you put the foil on the flat side or all around?

North East Distributor Parts - 1930 733

Greetings All,

Just wondering if anyone has found a source for the distributor cap and rotors? I purchased one a while back from Packards International and finally installed it this summer and had problems with it. Seems as though the rotor did not fit snug and rotated with some wobble causing a groove to be worn in the cap's contact points.

Any suggestions?
Thanks
Gene

Hi,

I replaced the valves a year or so ago and yesterday went in and adjusted them with the car running to the required specs. The #2 valves all seemed to be moving up and down with the rest.

Still no compression. Is it possible that the piston rings may have failed and all the compression is blowing by them?

I've run out of ideas.

Thanks
Gene

Greetings All,

Thanks for all the ideas and info. I did get the head gasket replaced, new hardened washers, cleaned the threads on the studs and nuts with a tap and dye so everything would torque right. I did put a straight edge on the top of the block and did not see any warpage to speak of.

I did a compression test and found that I still have no compression in cylinder #2. Is it possible that the valves are so far out of adjustment that a cylinder would have no compression?

This one is truly puzzling.

Thanks
Gene

1930Vacuum Tank Blues

Greetings All,

My vacuum tank may be starting to fail and am wondering if anyone has found someone who can rebuild them or if anyone has tried using an electric fuel pump to push the gas into the vacuum tank.

Would the vacuum tank if it is working draw the fuel through the pump when off, as the electric one on my '56 does, or would the pump have to be on all the time and will this cause the tank to overfill and possibly flood the carb.

Thanks
Gene

Thanks,

I think I replaced some of the studs a number of years back. I can check to see if any bottom out on the top side of the head.

It has been overheating big time, goes over 200 degrees driving 45-50 mph.

Thanks
