I am attempting to rebuild the radio head for a 37 to 40 120 with a Philco with the vertical tuning index. The plastic drum contning the index scale is warped beyond use. Has anyone had success with substituting something else or other replacement?

Do you apply POR with a brush or spray?

1. As mentioned, backing off the star adjuster on the brake shoes is important as many cars of this age have the shoes adjusted out to the max.
2. Never beat on the end of the axle. 3. When using the dogbone puller, release and reapply the tension from day to day and TAP with 2 hammers simultaneously on opposite sides of the hub. 4. Somewhere (?)I read that the hub is put back on the tapered axle DRY, with no oil or grease. The keyway does not carry the load but only the taper.

Big Keiv,
May I suggest the "removing the rear drums" be added to the FAQ forum since this is a problem that plagues both pre war and Post war members. Most members that need the puller have never seen anything like it unless they are some old Chrysler car enthusiast. There is also the chance of injury to the member or the drum rim if one tries anything other than the Dogbone Puller.

Cheapest and quickest test is to purchase 2 condensers. Get engine hot and try starting . If starting fails, quickly replace the condenser and try again. If it starts, put the other new condenser in your glove compartment and throw the old one as far as you can.
Been there} in a 15 minute parking space in front of the post office..

DELCO. 1939 120 JR8.
Could not see enough thread to determine direction. If it IS likely RH , I will not be afraid to force it. Difficult to hold arbor without damage to cooling vanes on back. Thanks, Lowell
