I am attempting to rebuild the radio head for a 37 to 40 120 with a Philco with the vertical tuning index. The plastic drum contning the index scale is warped beyond use. Has anyone had success with substituting something else or other replacement?

I've no personal experience with these radios so let's just call my comment an off the wall idea based on what I see in your photo.

The drum looks similar to the brass drums that hold the main springs in certain clocks and the gears in the unit seem similar to those in a clock movement.

If there is no easy to obtain replacement I'd ask a clock maker if he could fabricate such a drum or put you on to a specialiest that makes gears.

I'd check with Jerry at Yesterday's Radio.

They make the strips and other parts. If he doesn't have what you need, he can probably tell you whom to call.

I can't help with the problem, but just an FYI:
That's the Deluxe radio head, which has six pushbuttons, and was available for all series, not the just the 120. I do not believe it is correct for 1937, though, only 1938-1940.

Saffron,

The radio head you have pictured is a 1939-40.

All the parts are available.
