The door you got from me was purchased from the proving grounds… where all the wood was stored.

Hello JWL,

Appreciate the nice comments about the Packard Proving Grounds and our volunteers. Weare having one of our best years ever after nearly two years of COVID restrictions.

On Sunday, Ocotober 16 we have our annual Open House with live, big-band music, food trucks and more. If the weather cooperates we will have 350+ collector cars and about 3,000 visitors.

You need to come out and see us!

Earlier this year I talked with one of your office staff about donating an office door from the Packard plant to the Proving Grounds. I got distracted and time has passed. I would still like to do this and will see to getting it done soon. I have a certificate of authenticity for the door. I doubt I will ever get back there, but you can never tell.

I’ll admit alot of this was too wordy, fancy, and long winded for me…. By this I mean I didn’t read it….So I’ll simply say I’ve never ran a zddp additive and my cars are fine. I run mobile 1 which does have some zinc…. But I digress…. Never an issue. With a grain of salt… probably… but less words.

I would take that flex fan off and put the factory one back on and see what happens. Also double check timing.

Stamp a C in it. Problem solved.

Acolds, thanks so much for remembering about the trans number! It's obviously a very early 1956 unit (4th) but unfortunately the prefix letter (A, B, C, or D) is apparently missing so we can't tell which powertrain it was built for. May or may not be a Caribbean unit, may or may not be original to Randy's car. Caribbean units carried the prefix "C".

Its heartwarming to see Randy's car coming back and approaching completion, my warm and profuse thanks to you.

Almost did weld in new metal to make my back glass fit… and might have to when it goes flying out when I finally get to drive the car one day.

RL Carriers just delivered my new windshield this evening.

Does anyone here have an original windshield setting around? I am curious about the measurement of the widest part of the glass from the top to the bottom.

Someone here had a post in the past about a "new" windshield that they received was too narrow for the gasket and opening. I think they had to weld more metal into the frame to make it work. I am just hoping I don't have the problem.
My new windshield measures 18 5/8 (top to bottom)

gasket fit my windshield fine. it just wasn't wide enough to fit in the opening and capture the glass at the same time. it would either sit on the glass or sit on the lip of the metal...but not both correctly. the second gasket was a bit better, but not perfect and i was tired of jacking with them...so i siliconed it all up.

basically one of two thoughts...either the gasket wasn't right....or the opening in the car grew by itself magically...top to bottom. the window would sit on the bottom lip of the metal fine, but in doing so the top lip was not captured by the gasket. the gasket wasn't thick enough...plain and simple. garbage, but i made it work.
