Hi Mal, this is Ernie in Arizona following your adventures with your new 23 series with great interest. I wonder how much junk came out of your engine and radiator, in your opinion? Thanks for keeping us all up to date. Ernie

If it is possible, find a shop where you can stop in on a regular basis and see what is happening. Even do a bit of parts procurement yourself and become sort of an accepted presence in the shop. All business (I have found) is relationship based. I suspect that you will receive more for your hard earned money this way. Ernie

Re: Trouble - broken manifold bolt.

Perhaps put the manifold back on just snug with no gasket and use the actual manifold hole to guide your drill. I have used this method a couple of times to remove broken head bolts when I did not have a Mill available. Do start quite small and come up only a size or two at a time...Please don't be in a hurry. Good thoughts, Ernie

Hi Mal...Looks like you and your 49 are getting to know each other pretty well now. NICE! How many miles on the old girl?

Well then, since she is only half way there...and she looked good inside when we changed the head gasket about four years and maybe three thousand miles ago, I'll just figure that if I take good care of her and run marvel mystery oil and clean oil and filter and drive carefully...she might outlast me at 71! Thanks, Ernie

Millage for a 1949 - 2362

Good Morning all...Our 1949 2362 'Miss Prudence' turned 50,000 miles on the way home from breakfast this morning in Scottsdale, Arizona. It got me to wondering how this millage stacks up with her sisters? Is 50,000 miles considered low, medium or high millage for these old girls?
Thanks, Ernie

Good Evening to you...I am wondering if your carburetor might have an incorrect jet in it, even though it has been rebuilt, or a gasket was left out under a jet? How about your vacuum advance? Another possibility would be to try another carburetor. Ernie

James has a great point. Even new condensers can fail pretty quickly these days. A quick change will tell the tail and we should all carry a spare in our road kits. Ernie
