Excellent. So many of the Packard NorthEast EF speedometers come in to my shop with these in pieces.
Good to see!

The 39 Data Book and the 35-41 Parts Listing seem to agree. Below images from the Body Section 30 of Parts Listing. This information was helpful also for determining proper beltline and wheel pinstripe combinations.

Note the Paint Trim combinations indicate Trip Option "3-5" (which I guess means 3,4 and 5) were available for every paint code.

Then, looking up options 3, 4,5 in the Trim Codes:
Option 3: Tan Pin Stripe Broadcloth, pn 317124
Option 4: Blue Gray Broadcloth, pn 325179
Option 5: Tan Bedford Cord Cloth, pn 325088

If you own a convertible, leather options also listed separately.

Hope this helps,
Pat

For what it's worth, the photo is of a 39 or later column shift transmission whereas 38 and earlier were floor shift.

I have many mechanical parts for the NorthEast unit used in the 28-31 Packards.
Internal pot metal frame is usually the failure cause.

Hello All and Happy New Year,
Kev posted a repair article I wrote documenting my journey to resolve an annoying driveline vibration while overdrive is engaged. Since the article is a supplement to 1940 Service Letter, Vol 14, Number 11, it is now listed there along with the rest of the Volume 14 letters; you can find it here: (https://www.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/SC/SL-VOL14NO11_ADDENDUM.pdf)

It hope it helps for anyone who has a 1940 transmission with R9 overdrive installed and has experienced an annoying vibration. If you notice any errors or content missing, please let me know.

(by the way, my approach to increasing the overdrive engagement speed is in the forum here: https://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5476&viewmode=flat&order=ASC&type=&mode=0&start=0#threadtop )

That's terrible.
Yes, you are correct. I could build one up for you but the reproduction frame is not cheap.

I don't have an answer to that question, but can help on repair of the 28 if that helps. Those Northeast EF units are known for their poor pot metal frames.

Dr. Morbis,
