thanks for the ultramatic tips - I downloaded the material and I'm getting ready to read. Or flipping thru the rolodex finding somebody who can read good, for me.

When i shift the car into H, the tranny acts like its in neutral. the guy i bought the car from told me i just needed to add oil to the tranny and it would work, he claimed the fluid was low so the clutch wouldnt engage.
or , he fleeced me.

I got the info of a Ultramatic pro .... back east somewhere.... sh*t!

a week ago, i heard Low Rider by War on the AM radio. 2 hours later i bought a Packard in South Central LA for peanuts. drove it to Hollywood Hills no problem.

no problem except for it was nite and no headlites or turn signals, 2 breakdowns in LA rushhour, and a sincere chat with LAPD. and Ultramatic tranny would not shift out of low gear. uh oh 17 mph tops . no problem.

car is clean. ... no accidents, clean title... motor runs great . interior is all original.
there was obviously some electrical snafus goin on , still runnin oriiginal 6 volt.

so I assembled the Packard Pit Posse

Richy is main wrench . he's Tony's nephew , even tho he's older than Tony.
Tony fixes the computers at the studio. he has muscle cars.
Toby is the whiz kid who can fix everything ever invented.

First course of action was to rip out the old 6 volt system and slap in a new 12 volt wiring kit, box, new alternator, battery. just wrapping that up as we speak, i am typing from the back seat. that was all Rich

Toby rewired the blower, and the dash, and yanked a corroded doorhandle.

I replaced the plugs, turned a few screws, and was relegated to WD40 duty.
if it squeaks, spray it. great!

next set of issues :
Ultramatic wont shift into high gear!

do need more fluid for the hydraulic shift to function?
i read that F Type fluid is fine for Ultramatic. y/n ?

also:
need parts :
turn signal glass housings
dashboard bulbs + bulb holders
emblems!
new whitewall tyres
new driver side window

is this eBay motors ? swap meet? or Pep Boys ?

FEEDBACK WELCOME!!!
tomorrow is MAIDEN VOYAGE to the Diner ... even without completely proper paperwork. whatever.

live fromthe hills
the packy pit crew is wrenching
lapd just rolled by . easy to get away with curbside wrenchin when 5-0
admires your wheels

richy the wrench is buried in wires and Toby the wiz has my dashboard
in his hands
we need dashboard gauge lightbulb holders , and lightbulbs

are these pep boys finds? or swap meet? or eBay motors?

are there Packard parts guys at Pomona swapmeet?
I'm typin on the iPhon. , just wondering...... avoiding wrenching.
Toby is gettin bossy . richy is stir crazy

I have to buy these boys a big lunch . they don't want tacos today.
they are talkin about steaks
I said when we can drive the packy down to the steakhouse , steaks for everybody

more soon from the Hollywood hills Packard posse

amen ! you can always tell the cops that you bought a 'decommissioned' street sign if they ask. California sells old street signs

so, yeah, i guess this should be a Restoration Blog post....

that being said, does anybody know where the wipers on/off switch is in the '51 Packard 200 ?

I am finishing wiring tomorrow, Rich installed a hot rod kit , and we will be testing all switches!

I been peering around the dash, looking for wiper controls, and the only switch i think it may be is a knob on the steering column?

thanks for all the support Packys

yes!

under the hood at 9 am today, i did plugs and points, and yanked out hose.
thats what he said.

this guy was walkin his dog thru the hills walks up and said "is that a 51 Packard?"
he nailed it. his father had a '52.
i said, "good eye. you still got it , kid"

then i had to mix a record

so Richy went ape on the electrical .

anybody going to Pomona?

im crazy for the Superfly loook. albeit horridly garish

as seen in James Bond and Superfly

Packyz

thanks for all the feedback

its definitly helping me define the aesthetic for the vehicle design
which i have determined to be Raton Deluxe :

Chicano Luxury Rat Rod Stock Classic Sedan de Villain!
Doctor DOom Is In The Room!!!

red wheels might be a mainstay if i can find some mean lookin antique caps .... barring the garish and brash -- any ideas?

not sure if a chop is going to look good or not
all of the chopped '50's Packards I have found on the net are not looking sleek enuf to warrant surgery. --- > surgeon needed

for sure the Exterior Sun Visor will enhance the sinister look I am goin for (thanks for the link!!!!!)

Landau top is an interesting option altho a landua was responsible for the devasttating hidden roof rot on my 74 Gran Torino Elite. (new england car) (not a Packard)
Im mad at Landau

what what!! dingle balls!!!!!!! cholo lo lo!!!

Complete electrical overhaul will be finished by tomorrow thanks to my pit crew !
then on to - tune up, new tyres, system, touch ups: shave the handles, hupcappers, need some glass, SYSTEM AND TINT!!!

check this chop....

dont know if im feelin it

stay tuned !- kojazzle

say hey! you got some fine red wheels there !!!!!!!!!
amazing

my wheels are not stock, so the Packard hubcaps do not fit, so im stuck with the rat rod look .

not mad at it, but the Packard deserve a touch of class ... i think we all agree on that here.
