I was there Thursday through the Awards dinner Saturday night.

I was hoping to get to meet up with some of the folks on here who have helped me out, but traveling with a group of 8 kept me away from the Packard tent.

So far I've only processed, and sorted, pictures from Thursday. Hershey Day 1; plenty of interesting things to see.

I'll post more links to Friday and Saturday as I get them posted.

Chad

Here are Friday and Saturday...

Friday - Swap meet Day 2

Saturday - Show

On my '41 I decided to use a washable filter, similar to the K&N:http://goo.gl/C3YtHF, made by AEM.

I decided to use the AEM, because it is all black and doesn't stand out as much as the K&N. Purchased from Amazon.

I have retained the original and put it on for shows and cruise-ins.

I've only owned my '41 120 for about 7 months now, so being fairly new to the Packard world I can attest to the kind and helpful community here, who generously share their knowledge of Packards.

This thread has been dormant for a while, so I thought it might be interesting to revive it for the newer members; myself included.

I was born in 1969, and am now coming up on my 45th birthday.

My current cars:
2007 Mercury Mariner - Bought new
2007 Volvo S60 - Bought used in 2009
1941 Packard OneTwenty Touring Sedan
1964 Gravely Model L (2 Wheel walk behind tractor)

Previous Cars:
1994 Ford Explorer
1998 Ford Contour Sport
1987 Chevy Celebrity
1973 Ford LTD
1983 Ford LTD II - Kind of a unique beast with HD suspension option, 4cyl, and 4 speed manual
1982 Ford Escort Wagon
1983 Buick Regal
1978 Chevy Monte Carlo
2006 Saab 9-2x Aero
2006 Ford Focus
2003 Ford Focus ZX3
1998 Ford Escort

There have been others, these are just the ones a can remember.

Thanks for the links and hints for the thick washers.

Now that I got a little prodding, I am finding them all over the place. There are many suppliers to choose from, with lots of options in 3/16" thick, some even as thick as 1/4".

Edit 6/10:

I wound up ordering these: 3/8 x 1" x 3/16 thick washers from Amazon.

Thanks,
Chad

Guys,

Thanks for the feedback and positive comments. Getting the manifolds surfaced/dressed is good advice, and I would have done so, except for my own impatience to get back on the road.

I was thinking about this over the weekend, and honestly the hardest/most frustrating part of the process was putting the fender back on. It wasn't too hard to line up, but some of the screws and studs were a real bugger to get back in.

Does anyone have a source for the thick manifold washers? A couple of the doubled up grade 8 washers have buckled at only 30 lb-ft.

Thought I would share some pictures (and a video) of the stages of my latest project.

Manifold Gasket Replacement Album

The pictures of the blue bucket with electrodes are the manifolds being de-rusted via electrolysis. After that I cleaned the manifolds with degreaser, followed by acetone, and coated with POR-15 Factory Manifold Gray.

The gasket set, and stud set came from Kanter. All fit perfectly. The only thing missing from the stud/nut set is the thick manifold washers. I couldn't find those anywhere in the Raleigh area, so I used grade 8 washers, doubled up.

What a huge improvement in how the engine runs. I can only assume that the gasket had been leaking vacuum at one or more of the intakes as well.

Re: Why Do We Show Our Cars?

On Saturday I went to a local town sponsored car show, in Cary, NC. Nice turn out of about 180 cars of all makes, and vintages. The best part for me was that I met a gentlemen who also owns a 41 and lives near me; his is a 110 Convertible. We were both surprised and delighted to find another '41 owner so close by.

On Sunday I went to a small show at one of the local American Legion posts, the entry fee is for a good cause, and we got to hang out with a few friends, and check out some other cars. I was completely surprised to come away with a 3rd place.

Besides getting to talk with other car folks, occasionally you get to see a wonderful vehicle such as a this 1928 or 29 Graham (and most non-car folks consider Packards to be somewhat rare). The Graham took 1st place; it was by far the nicest car there.

That looks really nice.

I'll have to check Agri-Supply in my area to see if they carry something similar.
