Which way does the nut on the generator shaft turn to remove?
Much rust!

Thanks for the quick reply! Big help. I had to send the master cylinder off for bore and sleeve and mixed up old parts in the mean time. When I dissemble clocks I put the parts on a wire in case I am delayed in the project. Note to self: use the wire on master cylinders.

Master cylinder schematic

Can someone point me toward a Master cylinder schematic on our website? 1939 120 jr 8.

I seem to have one nickle size (round cross section)washer left over in my rebuild effort.
From front to back I have: 1 nickle size flat washer, cup, spring, piston and steel locking washer and wire spring retainer.
I don't want to have to remove this piece again as it is a pain.

How do the Germans control truck traffic on their Autobahn?
I have driven on the Autobahn and it is not the pleasure one would expect when one is driving a VW Golf.
Our Packard s could not maintain the minimum speed (for long)in their environment.

What was your solution to your dash pot problem? How does one test the diaphragm? I put vacuum on the vacuum port and no action. How do you take apart. Are diaphragms available?

We call that a "clutch plate". The friction surface is "riveted" on, The center has "splines" which line up on the "output shaft' to the transmission. I hope this will not insult your translations but will help you ask questions in the future. Are you able to use the "Literature and Manuals" on this site?
Many problems you will encounter have been addressed here but you have to know what to search for.

Can someone give me a quick measurement for the running board rubber mats for a 1939 and 1940 Packard 120 4dr Sedan. I am in Atlanta and not at home and have run into some 16" mat material.

Thanks,
Lowell

Igor, You shame me with the progress you have made so quickly. Many have gone through your same problems.

1. Are you familiar with the "search " utility on our website to find similar discussions?

2. Your translations are doing well but may I make a
suggestion."

3. When a word or phase does not translate well, may we select that word and send it back to you so you can take a photo of the item and then repost the photo with the mysterious word?

If you are pulling your wheels you may want to replace the wheel bearings. The numbers are on the bearings and can be ordered through any bearing supply shop.
I would not try to remove the rear wheels till you have obtained the proper tool (dog bone puller)

Just don't take the rest of the nuts off.
Just break them loose, snug down finger tight and let the motor warm up. If it does't break loose, loosen them up a little more and try again.
