Oil pressure update

Thanks for all the responses.
This car has a mechanical oil pressure gauge installed by a previous owner. The original gauge is also functioning and parallels the mechanical gauge.
Packard recommends 30 weight oil for normal summer driving. If I was running straight 30 weight oil and no overdrive I suspect that the oil pressure would be 50 lb.
To collect some more data on this I will take it on a little drive later on this week and disengage the overdrive and we'll see if the oil pressure is higher.

Oil pressure question

Thoughts on oil pressure. I searched the site but did not find an answer.

My car shows a strong 40 lbs when starting cold. I am running 10w-30w Rotilla (non synthetic) because of the additive pkg... recommended by my fav Packard mechanic.

When I am traveling around 60 mph in overdrive, the oil pressure is about 28 lbs. At idle, it drops to about 22 lbs.

I have the 356 engine.

Question:. Is this within spec?

Also, when this engine was built there was no multiple viscosity oil. Is it best to run it at 30W in warm weather?

It's just almost unbelievable that that car is the short wheelbase! You can tell that car was built for only very rich people because you would have to have a warehouse for a garage! I do so miss packard! Loving my 47!

Be sure to tell KM lifestyles how many bolts are on the sender. That way they can nail it down pretty close. That's how I got the right one. The one they sent me was the specification for my car but in the post-war era they were probably grabbing any part they could to get them into the car that would work so they could sell it. It was a magnificent sender extremely well made and more aircraft like in it's quality. But the correct one was just an inexpensive one that worked flawlessly. Also they sent it with a cork float on it. That will not work with ethanol gasoline. I found a float at jegs, I think and put it on the sender and that's what I'm using for a float. The only sealant that's going to hold up on that cork float is gas tank sealer. But I didn't want to buy a huge can just for that.

Looks like miles of smiles. I love to see bathtubs rolling down the road because I know underneath that beautiful aerodynamic skin is my chassis!

This car is a fitting tribute to the last days of Packard. Going out in a blaze of splendor. I really hope someone with deep pockets can preserve this car for future generations.

Always use metal ones for every car you own. They are much better for holding Air pressure.

I think I found it. The Super Eight and the Custom Super eight shared the egg crate grill. The Custom, being the top of the line, had the double strips..
