Kevin,
The device is a battery charger, although WWI might be a little early for it. I attached a picture of one I have. John

Autonut:
You need to go in and talk to the guys in the WSP inspection station. Best to go in person not phone, they work by appointment and may be too busy to spend time on the phone, but you can always hang around until they have time to spend with you. Take all of the paper work that you have on the car with you. You will likely have to make an appointment to take the car in and they will inspect it and run all of the numbers through the system. In Bellevue there is a 3 month waiting line. If it checks out OK they will issue a provisional title, if no one files any claims on it for three years then you get a full clear title. Don't delay as this is a three year process, car doesn't need to be running, they get towed in all the time. I did this on an Airstream motor home with a totaly screwed up title and am waiting 1 more year for a clear title. The guys at the WSP station in Bellevue were very helpful. Good luck, and get on it. Depending on how much needs to be removed to get clearance.
If your valves are new or have never been ground, you may be able to have the seating surface of the valve ground enough to gain clearance. You would also need to grind the end of the stem to get the proper clearance for the hyd. lifter. This would be quick and easy way to gain clearance and can be done by any auto machine shop. Just a thought. John

Kev,
The point timing stays the same. The ballast resistor is still needed, the coil is designed to operate on approx 6 to 8 volts and if run on 12v will overheat and begin to fail. The ballast resistor is bypassed on starting to give a stronger spark. John

Kev,
Here are the wire diagrams for the Pazon ignition, the control unit is about the size of a pack of cigarettes.

Kev,
The ignition system from Pacific NW Region of P.I. does not use a HEI unit. It is designed and manufactured by Pazon an ignition company located in New Zealand. As far as a failure leaving you stranded, the points and condenser are still in place and reversing a couple of wire connections would restore you to the original system and you would be on your way in less then 5 minutes.
