My 50 288 has a filter. It was quite an ordeal to get a cartridge here locally. I found a cartridge for a 60's Mercedes to fit very closely.
All 48 to 50's I have seen here have the oil filter setup as well as the heavy duty air filter for dusty conditions. I presume it was a necessity here locally as most of our roads were dirt farm roads in the late 40's.

Hi Kev

Great job on cleaning the tranny. I hope it repays you with working great!
The magnet idea is also good. If you can get a old computer hard drive they have VERY strong magnets inside. I use them on all my drain plugs. When draining the nonsense will stick to the plugs. Just remove the plug together with the magnet. These magnets are so strong that they will not fall of.

Your progress is impressive!

Goodluck!

Here is a photo of the cross section of my aftermarket weatherstrip. I am planning to cut the part as shown. This part gets pinched in the door gaps and I think this might be my problem.

Thanks for the comments about the paint color. It was a spur of the moment decision as I had run out of time making up my mind. I also like these body styles in a darker color.
West - thanks for the info regarding the sanding. I get a huge fright when sanding and the paint turns dull, but it seems one just have to grit the teeth and keep at it. The orange peel is bad up close probably cause of poor technique or a cheap (made in China!!) spraygun. I bought some special sanding paper(1000 and 1500 grit) as well as a sanding block for the 4 drips. It is a Mcquire's product.
The non standard rubber seal will probably have to be cut. I will post a picture of a side view profile tomorrow and post my suggestions. At this stage I will probably have to cut and experiment. Luckily the seal is manufactured locally here in Johannesburg so is actually inexpensive. I will not be able to afford importing originals from Steele Rubber.

Here is some pics of me and my other (non Packard) project! I am replacing the straight six with a 'better' one I bought. In these pics I am in the process of removing the engine - very easy! Then I wanted to clean up the 3 speed gearbox and made the huge big mistake of splitting the case!!! Through ignorance I had to spend 3 days to get the thing back together again. There was some (more than 30) needle bearings to install and syncro's to lign up. What a total mess. Will definitely avoid opening a gearbox again but I guess this is how one learns!

Fitted the doors during the new year holiday. The after market door rubbers is a bit too thick but I will be able to make a plan. That is why the doors are also not able to close. I still have to do the final polishing and sanding, but thus far I am very happy with the paint.

Good progress here!!

It really seems to be working out very well in the design phase. I really like it! I think this car will be very nice when finished and really make a statement.

Good luck!

Thanks guys! Your encouragement really means a lot even though my shoulders are still aching! HAHA!

Turbo - it is British, but not racing green - it is a Land Rover 4x4 green and almost black in the shade. Funny choice, but seems to suit the shape well.

Mal - pictures can hide the 'issues' well, but thanks for your kind words. I am actually very happy with my amateur paint job.
