The following Ebay listing is for a '55 Clipper Constellation 2-door hardtop with 3-speed stick/overdrive...

Perhaps a previous owner was fed up with his Ultramatic?
And at this point, wouldn't Packard make changes for a customer within reason, to make the sale? If it came w/the stick from the factory, that is... EDIT: And yes, that's WAY too high a price...

Do you think this Packard's condition reflects 143,000 miles?

I don't doubt that a Packard can accumulate this many miles. But looking at the photos, do you think it might actually have fewer miles?

Was the 1957-1958 Packard manufactured ONLY for marketing purposes?

I seem to recall reading that S-P Corporation made Packards in 1957-1958 ONLY to honor dealer franchise agreements, etc.
Is that true?

I'm reminded once again why I like this site so much...I learn new history every time I visit!... ...
The reasoning behind a Facel Vega-based Packard makes some sense - I'd never HEARD of it until right now. Without a Packard V-8 drive train, and torsion-bar suspension, though, why bother to label the beast as a Packard? I'm happy to see the Marmon V-16 mentioned in the above posts. It's always been underrated in comparison to the other classic automobiles of the era, in my opinion.

When the plant was last in the news, a MAJOR roadblock to demolition (sadly, probably the best thing) was being discussed.
Asbestos.
