Elefant, If you don't have success in finding a replacement fuel sending unit for your 49 Packard I could send you a working used unit without the float for $30 plus any shipping. I have had success making a float using motorcycle carb floats or using two corks bolted together. I think any type of float could be adapted to the sending unit arm and could be adjusted to work. If interested send me a PM Good luck with your project. . packardtaximan

I thought the 22nd series had a split type front bumper not the solid one piece as pictured. The speedometer bezel with the Packard was introduced on the 23rd series to the best of my knowledge.

I am not sure of the diameter but the older clothes washing machines used that type of clamp on their hoses.

I have used the base of tire valve stems that have been cut off to length and they work very well. Be sure to get the wide base stems.

1999 Warren Ohio Packard Centennial. The first showing of our freshly restored 1947 taxi. While talking to a group of enthusiasts about the taxi I noticed a elderly gentleman getting as close to the car as possible while being very careful not to touch it to get a better look inside. I excused myself from the group and asked the gentleman what he thought about the car and he replied that he used to ride to work in one just like this. I opened the door and invited him to climb in and see if it felt right. I had to explain to him that it was my car and that it was ok and I would be honored to have him try it out. I joined the group again in conversation (a little bragging) and noticed the gentleman exiting the back seat and went to assist him. He got out and I asked him if it met his approval and without saying a word he looked up at me with tears flowing smiled and walked away.

Thank you for the information. I have several repair manuals, but none that cover 46-50 Packards (the only years I own). A big thanks to Big Kev for all of the hard work to keep this site up and to everyone who makes this site the greatest. See you in Reading.

Connecting rod bolt torque specifications !947 taxi 6 cyl

HELP! Torque specs needed for 1947 taxi 6 cyl rod bolts. Engine was professionally rebuilt in 1999 and has performed well until rod bolt came loose in my driveway. I found the nut in the bottom of the oil pan and the rod cap held on by one bolt. There are no lock nuts or keepers on any of the rod cap bolts. The other rod caps seemed much too loose to me. The crank journal is fine so only replacing bearing on that rod. Open to suggestions and advice on re assembly. Hope to bring a running taxi to the National Meet next month. Thanks to all, Packardtaximan
