Never seen a Packard distributor without centrifugal advance, J. W. Packard patented a centrifugal advance mechanism about 1901 or so.

OK, that's good information. My 2 '41 120's and '50 Deluxe 8 all have vacuum advance.

Yes, but if you remove the breaker plate you'll see the centrifugal mechanism. Vacuum advance in addition to the preexisting centrifugal came along about 1936/1937 depending on make and model.

This distributor I just acquired has centrifugal ONLY. There is no place for a vacuum advance setup. According to my 35-41 parts book, it fits the 1940 120.
Thanks for the info.

What years used the vacuum advance where the distributor is held in a clamp with a fixed portion mounted to the block. The vacuum advance moves a movable part of the clamp which holds the distributor and rotates the entire distributor instead of just the breaker plate. With no place seen for the vacuum advance, Is it by chance one of those?

It sure could be. I'll have to investigate that.
Thanks

The IGP-4501A Auto-Lite distributor is for the 1940 One-Twenty and is a centrifugal advance model with no vacuum advance.

That's the one! That is what it shows in my parts book, too. It did not tell me that it is centrifugal advance only. I found it odd that it would be different than my 2 1941 120's, as they have the vacuum advances in the top of the distributor, and the lever moves the breaker plate. They must have made a change that year.
