Hello all, I realise that I shall receive some flak for this but I have had the odd annoying sagging door handle on my cars. Generally caused by a combination of wear in the actuating square handle end and socket. Nowadays, I use a small gas axe, judiciously heat and twist the operating shaft of the handle to eliminate the "droop". Caution is required of course to ensure that the chrome, etc is not heat discoloured. I use a wet rag on the chrome handle. I usually only rotate the square about 5 degrees and Viola!..the droop is gone. Peter Toet.

This may also be a head gasket issue. New style non asbestos gaskets blow between cylinders and cause backfiring. My 533 had this issue until I put in an original McCord gasket (2nd hand which I removed in 1976). The Flackmaster (Mr unobtainium) found an original NOS gasket and delivered it in New Zealand last year. I have not had to use this gasket yet. A compression test will show up such a problem. If you need to drive the veh with such a problem, simply disconnect one of the spark plug leads on the perforated cylinders and the car will run fine on 4.5 cylinders to get you home. Peter Toet

Ay Yai Yai, I loved this car ( totally not understanding why Barry got rid of it) and had no idea it was available. Looks like I shall have to do something with the 54 Caribbean resto which has been haunting the back shed for too many years. I have three to finish off. A 37 Super Dickey seat coupe which is about 85% done, a 38 Super 7 pass Convertible which has a very interesting WW 11 history, and a very original dismantled 54 Caribbean ( Green/white). I currently have 9 Packards on the road amongst a lot of other crazy stuff. These would be good to get on the road. When I cross "the Bar" the Worldwide price of steel will drop when they recycle all of the crap that I have accumulated. Stay well everyone....Peter Toet

In my opinion it would be very difficult to detect if it has been used in a system. it is reddish in the bottle but completely clear in the radiator. I have almost purchased but declined on purchase of vehicles with a reddish scum in the overflow bottle ( 6.9 Benz and XJ 12 jag), indicating a popular head sealant. I would rather have the V16 Caddy than most P11's but they are a well put together MotorCar.

It states that it contains Sodium Silicate ( liquid Glass). Use with ALL types of antifreeze (their CAPS not mine). Pour directly into radiator, no draining required. It is not inexpensive either at around $A75 for a 680g bottle. Yes, I am lazy in not pulling the head off on the P11 but...that head will come off very reluctantly and I am happy for it to be a good driver. One can purchase a lot of snake oil for $A38,000 (not including freight and duty). I am not endorsing Water Wetter or Rislone for anyone other than myself. Just sharing info. Peter T

Hello Tim and Fish n Jim, I fear that both of you are basically correct that it is probably another "snake oil" job. However, I have been very happy with the product and have not changed any of the radiator fluids for around five years since I have started using Water Wetter. I add the full bottle each year. I noticed that about 4 years ago my 1928 533 started to weep from the core so I took the green anti freeze out ( not using water wetter in the 533 at that time) and put in tap water plus some Risalone block sealant and water wetter. I have not had any leaks or overheating in five years so it works for me. I also have a 1934 R-R P11 which had been stored for 50 years with no coolant and an alloy head. lots of corrosion product powder everywhere. Filling with water after purchase resulted in 3 litres of water in the sump overnight. I was quoted over $A70k to get it running ( cylinder head is approx $38,000). I passed on this and used Risalone and Water Wetter. Fast Forward three years and I have no water in the sump. I do have to give it the occasional "fix", a 250ml dose of Risalone block sealant if I notice Cyl head bubbles in the water, but I can look down and see clean cores in clear water and it runs super cool for a 7.8 litre heavy limo. I look forward to your test results. Regards from Oz. Peter Toet

Look on the Positive side. At least the tyre did not go flat whilst you were 150 miles from home, with pouring rain and bad attitude drivers all around. Peter T

RHD 320 Manifolds are very different to LHD 320 manifolds.

Canberra is at 625 metres elevation and it can get down to -9 C overnight in winter. I have never had a freezing problem with my vehicles. My understanding is that if you have to use anti freeze then the Green antifreeze is probably the best for older vehs. but there is plenty of info on the net about coolant types. This is a link to a good read and includes advice on water wetter in "Other notes from other Various Internet users".
