I used spray enamel on our steering wheel 14 years ago and with the exception of a couple of scratches from wearing a ring it still looks great.

I made a set of the hood pads you describe by splitting a piece of vacuum tubing and installing over the end of the metal piece, then dipping the whole piece in liquid rubber. I dipped the assembly several times until I got the look I wanted. Good luck. Packardtaximan

If you choose to add more antifreeze, be sure when you run the engine to circulate the new mixture to turn on your heater. This will circulate the stronger antifreeze mix in the heater core and protect it from freezing.

Wasn't the 288 engine introduced in 1948?

Thanks for the ride. You have done a fantastic job on the car. I have driven many miles in the past 30+ years in our 48-50 Packards and I must say that the hood sure looked bare without a mascot. I am sure the owner will take care of that. Congratulations on a job well done.

Dennis, My 22nd series super 8 victoria is a 1949 model and the engine number is G420443CE. It is possible someone replaced the head on your engine with one off of a 288 engine.
