Two thoughts.

Did you install new coolant? If so did you mix it with water? 50/50. I have seen several engines run hot after a water pump change because straight coolant was used.

I changed a water pump on my 48 Chevy and encountered overheating at idle. It turned out the impeller was slipping on the shaft. Poor quaility control on the rebuilders part. I pulled the pump and pinned the impeller

I agree with y'all the swap is off the table. I will continue to enjoy the car with the original power plant. I am going to try and install AC over the winter. Thank you for your informative and helpful advice.

Thanks guys! I have access to a late model carburetor rebuilt 300 and matching C6 out of a 87 F250. My engine and trans work well for having 123k on them.. I was just kicking around the idea. You can still walk in a local parts store and get off the shelf parts for the 300. The last time I took the Packard out the fuel pump went south. I had to wait a couple of weeks on Kanter to get it running again.

I usually try an make this event. Even if it is only a day trip. Is anyone planning to attend? It would be nice to meet up with some fellow Packard owners

I was thinking of pulling my original engine and trans and replacing them with a Ford 300ci inline 6 and C6 transmission. I want reliability and A/C. Has anyone on the forum performed this swap? I do not want to use a V8. We love driving the car but we live in a rural area and to go to local cruises we have to drive 30 or more miles. Also SE Louisiana is HOT and my wife doesn't like to sweat. So her and our daughter will follow me to the event. Any advice would be appreciated

Thx
Dennis

I run Rotellla 15/40 and a quart of Lucas Oil Stablizer. My car has 123k. Original engine no rebuilds. It was making a little noise in the lifters. I started using the stablizer and the lifter noise is gone. It has 30lbs idling and 42lbs at highway speed (oil pressure)

Does anyone know of any Packard events going on in the New Orleans area? I am always checking the web but it seems a lot of car events in my area aren't always posted. I have seen several on the road and always wonder where they are going

Fixed! There was a burr/wear mark catching the latch. Disassembled and cleaned it up with a file. Reinstalled and working fine. Crazy!

Thank you! l did check and everything seems as it should. I tried adjusting the striker plate but it is fixed with no adjustment. I thought about cutting slots but I the latch has never given me an issue. It was working fine and now it's not?
