Not easy, such a reporter job. Not allowed to come in but instructed to deliver a report of the summit, the newsmen have to sink or swim but to deliver a story or a background report, an atmospheric picture or something else that satisfies the self-created information need. The cars offer a large projection surface and so the story takes its course. I invite you for a closer inspection of the images. Is that really true that

"... everyone at the conference, except Molotov, was provided with one of these Russian copies ..."?

Only one Packard? And what exacly is unusual, when the big boss drives the biggest car?

The next image leads our thoughts from Moscow to Washington DC. If someone would mention, that Washington DC isn't far away frome home, I will remeasure the distance, starting from Hamburg.

We see the Czechoslovakian ambassador Vladimir S. Hurban in 1939. Not only the car but additional the entrance area of this embassy building is impressive.

Gerd, I was curious about Mr. Hurban since Czechoslovakia was under Nazi occupation in 1939. It appears he defied the Nazis and held onto the Washington Embassy as part of a government in exile.

Looks to be another "nail in the coffin" of the often repeated idea of Packard giving all the tooling for the 1942 Senior cars to the Soviets.

Interesting, Ambassador Hurban had a '37 138CD limousine. Probably one of the few times that model served in such a capacity.
