Clock is now running on my voltage reducer at 6.7 volts and the time between when the points close to wind the clock has doubled compared to when I was running it on 12 volt. Now I am at 1 min and 30 seconds between winding events. I find this better than winding every 45 seconds. I will have to check that the reducer does not draw too much that would kill my battery over time when the car is off.
I guess I can put my multi-meter inline and measure the amperage draw of the whole thing.

Make sure your meter can handle the amps. Most meters are do not have a very high reading, I know mine only does mill. amps.

So, I measured the amperage drawn by my voltage reducer using The milliamp scale. It measures 18 mA "at rest" Not much at all. My crafstman multi meter is good to 20A on a different scale, but it doesn't read fast enough to catch the load when the contacts closed and the clock winds.
I think this will be a good powersupply for my clock when I get that far.
Now back to body work and stripping old paint.

Got the hinges and Hardware cleaned and in primer, as well as the passenger door hung. Still have to loosen the phillips screws in The upper hinge and pull the door out at the top a little bit. Not so easy getting everything lined up, but with time... Will send the hood and trunklid off for stripping and primer soon.
Opened up the radio and am considering putting new caps in it. That might be my next "evenings project"

Here it is, all finished. I decided to go with the carib theme for the final touches on my Clipper. Haha, I must Dream on here. Was at my cousin's Wedding this weekend, and my uncle drove all the bridesmaids in his car. This Packard is 39 years in his posession. Wow. This is where I get my "car genes"
Got my suitcase loaded with small parts to take back to Munich.

Got my stash of parts home, and started on the starter, but ran across the first problem. Tried to call Jason at AER yesterday, but that guy doesn't work on thanksgiving! Thought I would ask here since packard info never sleeps. Will try and call Jason next week I guess.
here is a pic of my old and new field coils. I'm converting the starter from 6 to 12V, so that could be the difference, but the old field coils have two lines that attach to the brushes, and the new field coil only has one. I guess I can wire both brushes to this one post, but then I will have to run a pretty thick wire from one brush to the other....Anybody have experience with this? wire gauge suggestions? On the end cap, 2 brushes go to ground, and 2 go to the positive/field coils...
My starter was also missing the 'fish paper' between the coils and magnets. Guess I will cut my own from gasket paper. And should I grease the bushings that are pressed into the housing with say, wheel bearing grease, or something else?

Drivers door is bolted on. Yay! Still need to align a big better. Hood, trunklid and fenders are halfway stripped. The organic paint remover takes a while, and is much quieter than using an angle grinder.
Few photos from my phone. Some Progress on Gregors tranny, but not much. A few seals done, but the bearing in the tailshaft looked Sketchy so he wants to replace that also.

Spent another 2 hrs this evening scraping away paint and paint remover. Now I am down to The original paint, but it has been 2 Applications of remover to get this far. Jeez. Think I will send them for media blasting and primer next. I've had enough.
