NOTE that they mite in fact be SLIGHTLY magnetic. Compare to a NON-SS valve for strngth of magnetism.

BTW, you mentioned dropping a valve. I've got a whole box, several sets of NOS Packard script '56 V8 intake valves; if you need one or several, I'll make you a deal.

What I really want to know is who has the box of exhaust valves? I'll trade two for one.

Stopped by the motor shop this afternoon, oh the block is gorgeouse all blasted and clean. #8 piston that was stuck was actually broken in two just above the wrist pin. Magnaflux shows a hairline crack in between the valve journals on #7 where the valve had dropped. Gonna pressure test in the morning. The guys showed me where the cam took a good beating.

FWIW, the '56 352" and 374" cams are the same P/N. Do they have actual unmachined cam blanks or do you mean they have the cam master to regrind your existing core?

The have the masters for sure, checking on blanks. My cam had an etching of three characters M4? cant make out the last digit.

Do you plan to run the engine with solid lifters? Any idea as the cam manufacturer and timing specifications?

No, everything is going back to OEM. I am pretty rigid on keeping it correct as possible. I am still up in the air on the Old Oil Pump conversion.

TroyT Quote:
I guess, I dont know how to quote on here. I thought if I put it between brackets but nope.

Simple:

Prefix with quotee (TroyT above).

put left-square-bracket "quote" (word spelled out) right-square-bracket in front of quote.

put in quote.

end with left-square bracket forward-slash character "quote" (word spelled out) right-square-bracket.

This is standard message board syntax and is similar to HTML, but square brackets instead of left-right "arrows" and trailing forward slash indicating "end-of thing", like /s which commonly means "sarcasm off".

Well, crap, Detour......When I was at the Engine shop today, I hit a pot hole in the side walk and took a pretty hard dive. Scraps and bumps aside, I got a nice crack in my Right Foot. I have to stay off of it for at least a week and use a walker. This is gonna make it hard to clean up the shop after the tear down, it needs a good cleaning.

I am gonna disobey the DR if possible tomorrow, I need to rebuild the top end of my 22 H.P. lawn mower. Another stinking mouse nest on the heads, overheated and warped the heads and I keep tossing the exhaust Rods. Got new heads sitting. Got to get the lawn mowed and get the snow blower hooked up to it for the winter. Aaaarrrrrrr

P.S. I see a Rochester 4BBL in that box on the floor for a Packard. Today was like Christmas in October, I have 11 boxes of Packard parts sitting in the Living Room. Momma yelling at me to relocate them. I told her it will be at least a week until I am allowed to walk, bask in the Ambiance of History :)

Hardened seats it shall be, with reworking the heads. Existing seats being recessed is an understatement, they were pretty bad.
