General Information: |
Clipper emerges as a distinctive second line for Packard in 1955. Super is the entry-level hardtop in the line-up. The 55th Junior Series models are a major facelift of the 1951-54 shell, but trunk lid, rear bumper, and taillights are carried-over from previous Series. New back-up lights are still optional, but now integrated with the taillights. Helmswheel ornaments adorn throughout. Curved door molding creates a natural cove for more dramatic, though optional, two-tone paint scheme. Rear fender skirts and full wheel covers are optional, but rocker panel moldings are standard. All-new V8 engine is standard, with upgrade to Twin Ultramatic automatic or overdrive manual transmission available at extra-cost. All-new Torsion-Level suspension is not offered on this model, even as an option, until July of 1955. Mid-year change in cylinder head casting also necessitates change in carburetor, distributor, and spark plugs. - BH |
