General Information: |
Clipper is now formally registered as a separate make for 1956. As such, Packard script plate is eliminated on Clippers, but later reinstated in production and offered to previous owners as a retrofit. As with 55th Series, Super represents a step-up from the Deluxe, mainly in terms of trim. Headlamp bezels are restyled, increasing the appearance of overall length; turn signals relocated from grille to front fender. Front bumper guards are moved outboard; air opening in lower valence is enlarged and also includes a mesh panel. Side trim is restyled to provide a side stripe on two-tone models; Window finish moldings are eliminated from top of sedan doors and center pillars. Rear fender skirts and rocker panel moldings are optional. Trunk lid is squared off; rear bumper is a completely new design, integrated with new shark-fin taillights, which would remain popular with customizers for decades to come. New electric door locks available with electric (power) window lifts, but on sedans only. Torsion-Level suspension continues as an option and was likely factory-installed on all examples of this model, but becomes standard equipment in May of 1956. - BH |
