On the side image you can see the large counterweights of the crankshaft, and also the governor for the centrifugal spark advance (patent 667,792 of 2/12/1901). The crankcase is an "open" case; rings are oiled by an oiler on top of the cylinder and the excess oil that is below the rings just blows out the back (facing forward), making a tidy little mess to clean up after driving. This particular car did the London-Brighton run and I can only guess at what the cleanup was like. I'm guessing the rpm range of this motor was probably from about 60 (idle) to perhaps 800 max. Not too different in multiple than today's engines.
