Inscribed on photo back; this new Packard 400 model offers elegant and stately styling and an improved torsion bar suspension system, the ride and comfort advance pioneered on American cars by Packard in 1955 models, for 1956 new Packards offer two major engineering advances that will be auto industry firsts, an electrically activated push button automatic transmission, and a non-slip differential, representing the first basic change in differential design in more than 30 years, the non-slip differential eliminates driving nuisances such as getting stuck in snow, on ice, in mud, and other adverse driving situations, most important, it contributes to the ultimate to date in safe, secure road ability when a car goes around corners or sharp curves, the non-slip differential senses which rear wheel needs and can utilize tractive power, and makes a transmission of power accordingly. Photo caption on back from unidentified Packard source the 1957 Packard Clipper 4-door sedan previews at the New York Automobile Show December 8, it will be introduced by Packard dealers in mid January along with a 4-door station wagon, the new and different Packard Clipper is two inches lower, 300 pounds lighter and 20 percent better in acceleration and performance than previous Packard Clipper cars, engineering details are being with held until dealership introduction time, representing a major move toward parts and body interchangeability, a 2-year goal of the company, the new Packard Clippers are the first to be made in South Bend, Indiana, following the company's consolidation of all automobile manufacturing there, the pioneer auto company will concentrate its Packard program for 1957 in the medium priced field which has accounted for 80 percent of Packard sales during the last two years.
