You can get new steel or stainless fuel lines already made and bent properly from Classic Tube. They come coiled to save on shipping but apparently it's easy to straighten them.

In other news....

New wheels and tires installed. They fit much nicer and I think look more appropriate.

Nicole took it for a test drive and said it rode much smoother and steering at low speed was much easier.

On her test drive, two Huskies ran into the road from between two houses and Nicole mangaed to lock up all four wheels. Brakes work, and new tires slightly less round.

...also....trunk didn't fly off in that panic stop. So my mounting solution proved effective.

Your local auto parts store can get you the sender. Ask for one for a 1957 Thunderbird which should be the same although you may need to make some adjustments to the float arm.

Oh sick, i’ll let Jim know

Reference the part diagrams. The fuel line probably just attaches with P clips.

I’ve unclipped the lines but it seems to go through the car as one piece

Are the water distribution tube's still available or being remade, just in case?

Start with Flackmaster to see if he has one. After that, check with Max Merritt. I noticed that they had new reproduction distribution tubes at Hershey.

Ultramatic Column Shifter Detents / Wear
Home away from home

On the column shifter obviously the lever must be pulled back to get out of Park. However, it must also be lifted to enter Low, and further lifted to enter Reverse.

On my Deluxe I have to lift it to enter Low but the additional "bump" into Reverse is not noticeable.

I notice there is this "brush" (as in, a motor brush) that tracks along the detent pattern, and it is heavily worn. I wonder if this contributes to the issue. (Shown below.)

Another annoyance I have is that the needle seems to be only vaguely connected to the column. I just reattached it, so I know that it's tight. Something else is loose. And please note that my transmission is not even in the car yet... I can already see that the needle doesn't land on the same place when the selector is moving to the right vs. the left. This is fairly annoying as going into Drive (D') out of Low, the needle basically still points to Low. But going into D' from Park, the needle lands fine.

I would appreciate any insight that would help to tighten up this linkage before I drop the transmission in in a couple of weeks.

Kev, thank you very much. I'll let you know if there's anything significant to report on this matter.

I made a couple of minor changes to how session information is handled. Hopefully, this should reduce the number of times you get logged out when you click on a link from another website back to PackardInfo.
