56 TL suspension inoperative
Home away from home
Home away from home

Kip56
I removed the J-6065 holding tools today after reattaching the load arms/links to the lower control arms and reinstalled the drums and tires. After checking all the solenoid wiring and fuses I switched the TL system back to the on position expecting the car to adjust back to level.

Nothing happened. The TL system was working fine when I started this project a year and a half ago and I did not touch any of the TL wiring. I double checked the fuses and searched for any loose connections but came up empty. The upper control arms are pretty much mashed against the frame bumper stop. (Picture attached.)

I am looking for trouble shooting suggestions as gremlins seem to have taken up residence in my suspension.

Thanks,
Robert.

I'll try Radio Shack. Thanks for the tip.

I do believe bases much larger than modern cars. Apparently even Packard had problems because there was a bulletin for 55 to check rear lighters because wrong base installed and was so large, element would pop completely out. Wouldn't that be a thrill and give a new definition of hot seat if it landed in your lap.

Seriously, even new cars have problem. I have one item that will work in a lighter socket but not the power acc outlet because of size & not fitting.

Excellent web page, Randy, and the photo of you beside the Four Hundred looks great.

I should know, since I took that shot at Warren back in 2003 - LOL! Seriously, aside from pressing the button on my camera, all I did was crop to recenter. Randy did all the hard work - making the car and himself look "purdy". I'm glad you saw fit to use it for such a fine piece.

Having taken the nickel tour a couple of weekends ago, I can attest that Randy's train collection is magnificent.

Joel -

Just get a 12V accessory power outlet. I got one from RadioShack for a little over $5 many years ago, but you'll find 'em in the automotive dept. at mass-market retailers or just about any parts stores - gotta be less than $10 these days.

Mount the outlet discreetly up under the dash (some even come with peel-n-stick foam tape), but wire it so the socket is only hot when the ignition is in the "run" position (should be a circuit tap like that available at the fuse block).

Even when you don't need GPS, this outlet will come in handy for recharging you cell phone, keeping your coffee warm, etc.

I would like just to have my GPS work in my 12 Volt 1956 Packard. I tried it in several V-8s at the national meet and the lighter base must be configured differently than more modern cars as no power would go to the unit. All of the cars I tried my GPS in had functional lighters.

Yes he was. He was also in a band called "The Firehouse Five plus two" and recorded long play albums.
The Dorfan Dust Society is just a group who likes Dorfan and whose members are not allergic to zinc dust. If you have a TCA directory, you can find those names listed - all except for Milton.

Mr.Pushbutton
I turned 48 last February.............but don't feel that old!

Randy--the Dorfan tape measure club was a Ward Kimball invention I think. Ward was a hoot!

It would be nice to find an original NOS Packard 6 volt GPS unit!

I suspect the bidder on the car also took note of the compass. Attached is a photo of a NOS compass.
