Dave,
A coil is something I tend to not see or think about. They don't need servicing, adjusting, or lubricating. They don't move, make noise or need fluid level checks. They are rather central however to ignition, start-up, and combustion. All of which are required for operation of the vehicle. Glad you shared the experience. Makes us all more aware. DanL

Mal, I Just got a call from "Peeps" today as he was trying to track down history of his 48 Limo. A Packard Dealership here in Sioux Falls may have sold the car.
So far Peeps has the 2011 record for "Most Packards registered on PInfo in ONE Day." DanL

Jim is quite an 'authenticity' buff. Sounds like his 12v a/c clutch is a temporary fix in his mind.
He literally wrote the book on 1940 Packards. [PACKARD 1940: a pivotal year] I really enjoy his stories on this era of Packards. See the Bookshelf: http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/modules/BookShelf/ I was on the team that judged Jim Hollingsworth's 1941 Clipper at the Branson Meet in 2009. http://packardinfo.com/xoops/html/mod ... photo.php?lid=5523&cid=45 DanL

"Cream Puff?" Maybe?
Obviously, this guy didn't want to chop it. That's good. The price is good, regains basic authentic character. I am a bit partial to 41 Clippers. I have spent 3 years getting my Clipper up to "Highway worthy" condition. It moves 50-55 mph down the road now. Fun to drive - ride. I was able to start with a 30 year-old restoration project of a man I never knew. It sat for twenty years of neglect. I am not sure I would want to start where this Craig's List project seems to be. Hope the new owner is happy with his find. Hope one more Packard makes it back to the road. DanL

More consensus here.
About 14-15 mpg for my 41 Clipper at about 50-55 mph on highway. DanL

Thanks for photos and discussion. I have been to PAC in 2008 and 2009 at Des Moines and Branson, MO respectively. This year I chose the Cadillac-LaSalle Grand Nat'l in Kansas City last week for my splurge.
Quote: The 2011 PAC National Meet will be in Galena, IL during July. The 2012 National Meet will be in Williamsburg, PA during September (!) Thanks ECAnthony for this info. I will definitely put Galena, IL on my 2011 calendar. Keep those pictures coming.

I also use a black handled one that actually comes apart so that the cable is removed from the post. It is heavy enough to work well with 6 Volt systems.
The only issue I had was needing to put some insulating tape on the battery hold-down frame near the shut off switch. Occasionally, as I would take it off, it would drop down before it was fully disconnected and spark. Insulation and holding it up carefully until fully disconnected solved that problem. DanL

D-Train,
Try emailing the Chicagoland Packard Club. I met a past-technical advisor from there at PAC Nat'l Meet in Des Moines in 2008. Can't recall his name. Somebody there should have some recommendations. packardsofchicagoland@juno.com They list some officers: Technical Advisor as Gary Thomas President as Gary Friedrich http://www.chicagopackard.org/ Look for local classic clubs where you are too.
