Regarding the fuel sending unit, does anyone know the correct OHM for full to empty for the Custom Super Clipper? Also, there has been a reference to the float arm length from model to model. What would be the correct length for the Custom?
I have the original in the car and my mechanic replaced the cork float with brass, but never had the sending unit refurbished. Now that I've found a new tank, want to make sure once it's installed that everything is up to standard.

The 48 through 50 gas tank arrived today from the manufacturer. Here are close-up pictures of the tank and sending unit mounting area.

An update from the manufacturer. The tank is zinc-coated galvanized steel and then powder coated black. It is a twenty-gallon unit and not the 17. Purchased the unit and with tax and delivery charges, came to $850.
Given that I've been looking for a tank for the car for over three years, it seemed a reasonable price to pay to keep the Custom running smoothly in the years to come. Thanks to everyone for their input! Dave

Hey Guys,
This has been invaluable information and thanks for all your responses. I've reached out again to the manufacturer of the tank to find out if it's a 17 or 20 gallon. Will keep you posted. If the "48" is similar to the "47" except for the fuel sending unit hole and number of bolt screws, I'll offer my old unit up to him and MAYBE we can see tanks for the "42 through 47" models! There's hope for us all yet! Dave

I spoke with the vendor through the contact number on ebay. He specializes in Mopar parts and reproduces gas tanks for all models from Chrysler.
He told me that a client came in with two gas tanks to duplicate and paid a boatload of money to get them reproduced. One for a 1937 Packard and the other for a 1950. Since he had the molds for reproduction, he's decided to produce a few more. Thanks for the leads. My car, somewhere in its seventy-five years on the road, backed up onto a rock and there's a huge dent at the bottom side of the tank. Still holds gas, but is causing suction problems when the gas falls below a quarter full.

I own a 1947 Packard Custom Super Clipper that needs a new fuel tank. I spotted a reproduction 1948 through 1950 Packard fuel tank available on E-Bay. 1948 1949 1950 Packard Gas Tank

My 1947 Packard Custom Super Clipper's battery gave up the ghost and I found two excellent sources for a replacement.
For those of you who want a period-correct replacement, The Battery Central Mall carries an entire line of Willard batteries that fit Packard models from 1921 through 1958. You can have the Packard script on the side of the battery for an upcharge. But they are expensive. They build industrial batteries and their 2E-1, designed for tractors, is an exact duplicate in size, voltage, and amp for the original battery in my 1947 Custom.
