Have been working on the speedster again, going to try to get it done for the Detroit Autorama, again. Should be no problem. Most parts are rebuilt and painted and we have started re-assembly. Parts re-built, refurbished, painted and ready for reassembly (already started) are front and rear axle assemblies, suspension, steering components, engine, trans, and a lot of little parts to hold them all together. The body is in prime.
Have included some photos of current progress. This weekend planning on installing the wheels and tires making it a roller and installing the engine and trans.
The first photo is actually and old one, but one of my favorites. The first time it rolled under its own power in early 2010.

Help. Does anyone know what the thickness of the brake linings were in 1928? I just had mine relined, they used .250" thickness and my drums won't go on at the smallest adjustment, obviously wrong. They will re-do them but I need a spec.

'28 Packard Chassis Lube.

I am in the process of reassembling the chassis of my '28 Packard Speedster project. The original plan was to rebuild the original Bijur(?) oiling system for the chassis lubrication. In my case this would require replacing all the lines and rebuilding what appears to be check valves at the fittings and duplicating the unusual flare on the tubing. As this is not a strict restoration I would think a reasonable alternative would be to install zerk(?) grease fittings at all the locations the tubing went into and use some other type of lubricant injected through these fittings. Is there another alternative? What type of lube would be recommended? I would think that current standard chassis grease would be too heavy to flow into all the spaces originally designed for oil. Thanks, Ron

Was planning on it, but. It's in pieces right now, frame & chassis components just sandblasted, engine being rebuilt, body ready for prime. Hopefully will be finished for spring.
