I checked the timing and it is not 180 out cause that is what i thought. The rotor is on the number one spot when number one cylinder is 6 degrees BTDC. the car previously ran so the wires are in the correct spot on the cap. I double checked all the wire positions again. What are the two wires that go to the carburetor for? Nobody that i have talked to on the outside world has ever seen a carburetor with electrical wires on it. It has me puzzled. BigKev, you think that my carb is out of adjustment?

I have replaced all of the parts in the distributor: cap rotor condenser points and even replaced the wires and coil. I have checked the timing which is six degrees BTDC. I am getting spark to the plugs and i am getting fuel i don't know why i cant get it to fire up. I just rebuilt the carb last week and have adjusted everything just like the kit says. It ran previously before i rebuilt the carb. any ideas would be helpful

As for the gas tank I had my gas tank boiled and acid washed. They then put a coating inside to plug all the leaks. I asked about that coating coming out and the company i took mine to said that it wouldn't come out unless the gas inside varnished and got old. They told me to keep some sta bil in the gas to prevent it. They also pressure tested the tank after all the coating was done to make sure of no leaks.

I guess there could be a pin hole but i did not see one. Last night I tried to suck gas out of a can and not the tank so that eliminated the fuel line as being the problem. It has to be something in the pump. One guy i talked to said that maybe the screws that sandwich that lower gasket may be bottoming out. that would make sense since I have taken a few thousandths off of both sides of each casting that would make the gasket a little thin. This could be my problem.

I made sure each flat surface was true with a piece of emery cloth. I put some torque on the screws that go between the sediment bowl and the upper part of the pump. That was my next thought was the fuel line if it was getting sucked closed so that nothing was going through. i have not replaced that yet.

I rebuilt the fuel pump with the kit you guys suggested and now when I install it it sucks the gasket in and it starts to leak fuel. The gasket it sucks in is between the sediment bowl and the inlet valves and outlet valve. Any ideas why it would do that. I took the pump back apart and the gasket looks fine. I did not use any sealer because the instructions said not to. I have talked to a couple mechanics and they said that it might be working too hard getting gas from the tank. I tried it with the gas cap off and still did the same thing. They also told me to horseshoe the vacuum side of the pump so it would not be creating any vacuum for the wipers and such any ideas would be helpful thanks,

Thanks for the info. I just started working on my grandpa's car and it has a leak on the fuel side of the pump. I was just wanting to get a lead on parts before I start taking it apart.

I was wondering where to get a rebuild kit for a 52 packard 300. Any info would be helpful. New to the whole working on them. I don't have all the connections yet so any help would be appreciated.
