Jim update. I went to Napa for recommended breaker and THANK YOU!! for that information. Installed the new 30amp breaker which has replaced the old 20 amp one. Headlights now stay on much longer, but eventually do go out. The breaker trips. Tail lights do not appear to come on at all however, I took the bulb assembly out of it's holder in the trunk and can see it glowing very dimly when the headlights are on. Don't see any obvious problems with wiring. License plate light does not appear to be working either. Any suggestions? I'm thinking it has to be wiring in the trunk area or could it be the headlight switch after all? Jim

Jim again. Another thought. Wouldn't it be nice to take out the headlight switch and convert the circuit breaker at the end of it to having a removable fuse? Would this be possible? If the fuse blows, then I'd know for sure it's the cars wiring and not the switch itself.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Been checking all those places for open wiring and found a few questionable areas that I corrected, but no luck fixing it yet. I will find it even if I have to start throwing new parts at it like a high beam floor switch or another headlight switch. Thanks again, Jim

'53 Clipper - Turned on my headlights this evening and they go on for a moment, make a clicking sound, then go off for about 15 seconds and then another short blink on, click, then off again.... over and over. Am I right in diagnosing this as a bad headlight switch? Brake lights, turn signals are fine. Thanks for input, also, the clicking sound seems to be nearby under the dash maybe??

Thank you!! Thank you!! for the help in sending those service bulletin's. The speedo gear WAS in backwards. This forum is great. Don't know what I'd have done without the assistance. Car running fine now.

As soon as I get a photo of the car and some time, I'll add it to the registry.

The information you sent is fantastic!! I'm going to check for an improperly installed speedo driving gear first. More later.... Jim

Currently doing work on my '53 Clipper automatic transmission. Speedometer gear is shooting oil at the transmission vent causing it to leak out above 40mph. My old Packard shop manual photo shows a plug in that spot and a vent located elsewhere on the trasmission. There is no other place provided for a vent on my transmission. Should I plug up that vent and drill a vent elsewhere? Otherwise, the transmission and speedometer are now working fine. Jim
