Otherwise any convenient remote control bowden cable could be substituted along with a little switch that would bear against the lockout lever.

The link I provided earlier has reproductions of the control cable….$60

That won't work with the R-9.

I have a lock-out cable complete with switch. $350. If interested, I'll take a photo and post.

The alignment of the fenders, hood, and radiator shell are a pain in the butt on the pre-war cars. So many things have to line up perfectly in order for it to work.

That's why it makes so much sense to remove the front clip as one unit if you can. Much less time involved in removing and replacing. Of course, that's not always an option.

Second number looks like a 4 to me, too.

Re: Advice Please. Rare 31 840 Deluxe 8 Coupe for sale.

It is rare, and it's a great car. But ....

1. amateurish restoration that does not stand up to inspection
2. unfinished
3. poor choice of colors
4. not running
5. a very downtrodden market right now, especially for project cars.

The fact that it's an 840 makes it much more desirable than an 833, but it's still a relatively staid phone-booth-style coupe (versus the much more desirable one-year-only 1934 coupe).

In my opinion (as a professional appraiser, with lifelong family ownership of prewar Packards), and based on the above 5 criteria, I'd say its value is in the neighborhood of $35,000. The value will increase with each of the five points proven wrong.

Jay Leno already has a 1932 coupe (a Twelve), and I strongly doubt he'd be interested in this car. Carini would be interested ... at a give-away price.

It would also be more helpful to know exactly what parts and condition. Is spare engine complete? Worn out? Need many more photos of the car and the parts. Also, location.

Max Merritt has them for the Super 8/12. Not sure if he has the Junior trim or not. but I'd try calling them.

The radio in a 1941 Packard is mounted behind the speaker grille on the dashboard. The radio of a 1940 is mounted on the firewall, and operated via the remote control.

Or... you could do the 120 thing, as the XK engine in your car first appeared in a Jaguar 120

That is the body number, not the vehicle number (VIN). Your car has the 45th 4-passenger phaeton body assembled. The Vehicle Number is located on the brass plate attached to the engine side of the firewall. You should also find your body number on a small brass plate attached to the front passenger-side floorboard.

Stopping distance won't improve unless you also install radial tires.
