Re: banjo steering wheel for 1939 Six

That makes sense Darrin180, as my motor # is B23002A so I'd have the larger diameter spline. Chris.

Hi Ewrecks,
My '39 Six has the banjo wheel Howard showed. I have had it off several times for various reasons and did not see any bushings or 'jump-sizing'. It just fits directly on to the spline of the steering shaft. It's a tolerance fit and requires a puller to remove it, but nothing more. Is it possible a) Packard had more than one 'Banjo' wheel, or b) that the wheel you have (or are looking at) is from another brand? I believe Banjo wheels were popular in many cars in that era.
Chris.

Hey John,
Not sure on the window channel sizing but when I replaced a couple of windows in my '39 Six, I had to remove the channels to get the windows out and there are some very small Phillips flathead screws holding them in. They were so small, I initially thought the things were riveted in and Brian (BeDeb)straightened me out, advising they were screws. Anyway mine did come out but were badly rusted. I had to order a whole box to get the handful I needed, so if you require any, let me know and I'll mail you a few. Chris.

Re: Packard Trips

Hey Ernie,
Yes Covid seems to have put a bit of a damper on 'Packard trips'. Up in the Great White North, the snow is 'on the way down' and I for one, am looking forward to some miles in the '39, come spring. A couple of repairs and a new re-chromed front bumper this year are 'on the list' for the car, and it sounds like our local town car show is back-on this year after being suspended the last couple due to the pandemic. I might even 'show' the Packard in that. I'm not really that much into shows, but it would be, for sure, the only Packard in there, so might do it just to keep the 'name alive'!! LOL
Stay safe and happy motoring. Chris.

I can confirm that; I learned the hard way - I ordered a sending unit for my '39 and was sent an AC Delco unit. It reported backwards on my gauge. (i.e. empty when full/full when empty) Luckily I bench tested it before installing and sent it back for exchange. Saved a ton of work! Chris.

I tried to reply to entries on my post only to find half of the thread had disappeared. I emailed Big Kev, but didn't hear back? Anybody know if he is away or temporarily out of the loop?Chris.
