Re: R-11 overdrive electrical troubleshooting

Phil Randolph
I operate my R11 with a toggle switch (breaks the signal from the governor to the relay). I don't have a kickdown switch. I almost never pull the cable out as I find it not necessary for travel on todays roads. If I need the extra oomph for climbing a hill or such I just flip the switch and touch the clutch and I'm out of OD. Anyway sometimes although rarely when I park the car and put it in 1st gear it can roll away. Therefore I always set the hand brake and try to remember to put it in reverse.

If your 700R4 has an electronic speed sender Dakota Digital has an adapter to go from electric to cable for about $300

The clock will fit but 38 had a unique face and hand design. The clock face mimicked the speedometer.

There will be a Packard or two in the upcoming movie "The Finest Hours" My 38 was there but it was always out of frame because the lighting director thought it was too bright (its yellow). However there was a blue 37 sedan that got into a few shots. I can't wait to see the flick- it comes out Jan 29th.

Strange- The pictures are old photos and if it has overdrive it isn't all original (overdrive came out in 39). Still might be a good deal.

Try some Marvel Mystery oil down the spark plug holes and let it sit a day or two then try to "unstick" the motor
