Re: Is My 1956 4-Dr Deluxe a "Packard" or "Clipper"

Here is from a reference book I have, which lists the Clipper as a seperate brand for 1956, under the Clipper name only.

When Nance became president of Packard in 1952, one of his immediate objectives was to divorce the marque from the medium price field, which hindered rhe luxury Packard's sales performance since WWII. Nance reinvoked the Clipper name as a Packard series in 1953, it was then formally registered as a seperate make for 1956.

Robert: Welcome to the forum and congradulations on buying a Packard.

Two things that are must read information about the 55 and 56 Packards are the STB's and the three wolume book set on the Packard Ultramtic transmissions. Both of the above that I am refering to are on this web site under Packard articles. If you down load both of these and take time to read them, this will go along way in helping understand your Packard, and what to look for when something goes wrong or a question might come up. The above information that this site provides has never been realy provided by a major club like PAC. You will find people like Brian,Eric, know as much or more about the 55 & 56 Packard than some of the so called experts than some of the Packard clubs claim to have.

One real nice thing about this site and the forums, there is no list of moderators, like I have see listed on another site. I see another Packard forum has FIVE moderators listed and now they have two more self appointed moderators.

One person that is a moderator on another site even uses the national site, to try and sell beer products. I guess that person is using the site to increase his personal wealth.

I am very glad that nothing like that is happening on this web site.

Thanks again BIGKEV for this wonderfull website, and the freedom given us by you to talk about things, not allowed on another national clubs web site.

BIGKEV: Your the one I would like to say thanks to for starting this web site. Thanks to the kindness of alot of people making the contributions they have, this site provides vital information, that a national Packard Club charges for.

This si an interesting side note I found doing research on the 48 and 49 Packard. In November 1948 Packard instructed all Packard deleats to remove data plates on all unsold 1948 Packards. The palte were order to be snet back to the factory. They were replaced by new plates with the suffix 9 added to the body style number.

The intersting part of this is did Packard also increase the prices on these unsold 1948 models. Price increases ranged between $125.00 and $200.00 on the 1949 Packards.

CLIPPER47: I will let in a little secret, plese don't tell anyone else. In the latter part of last year Big Kevin made a public offer to me in the AACA to write a story about Brad, and he would publish on this web site. At that time I publically acepted the offer.

I have been working on the story in spits and spurts, as I have had time. I am hoping that I have the story complete by July of this year. The story isn't just going to be about my relationship with Brad or the good times we had. The story will aslo included what the money from Brad's estate has done for the comunity of Jersey Shore.

Not to give away any important deetails of what is in my story. Here is something I would like to tell everyone. Stu Blond started of his story by stating that Stella and him visited Brad on Saturday. The actual day they cam to visit was on Sunday, because Brad in 25 years had never closed the gas station on Saturday for anyone. The closing of the gas station on a Saturday never happend until long after the Blonds had made thier visit.

I am in no way interested in having anyone fashion a story for me. The letter I wrote to Stu for publication in the TPC I consider to be straight forward giving a correct acount of what realy happened during thier visit and who made it possible for them to get the story. Telling the truth is never ranting or raving

Maybe Stu and Stella should be made to understand, the only thing that is going to bring peace and understading is the publication of my letter in the TPC. Over the last couple of years I have wasted enough time with Stu and PAC, trying settle this matter behind the scenes, even trying to talk to Stu about the matter at Hershey. The only thing that has resulted from this is a good kick in the teeth.
